A local barn here seems to import a fair bit from Ireland. I think they have good contacts through a coach that moved here from Ireland. All the horses I have seen them bring over seem level headed, rideable, while still being athletes.
I do agree on the bug thing though: but I saw that more with horses coming from Holland than the Irish imports. I have also had that issue with horses from the US though.
One of my clients regularly imports from Ireland and would be happy to help you through the process. We put together a FAQs page on the website that might answer a lot of your questions about importing: https://excelstarsporthorses.com/faqs/.
I found mine on donedeal.
I will add that my recently imported (December) ISH has had a tough time adjusting to the bugs in my area - I feel so bad, he is covered head to toe with fly gear but still gets bites that turn into welts sometimes. The heat has also been a factor that he’s getting used to - just things to think about depending on where you live.
Why not support the US ID/ISH breeders with a purchase? There’s quite a few of us with quality true ISH and ID.
