The dressage girth conundrum.
I second the TSF girth. I have the anatomical one and my horse loves it. Super leather quality.
This is the one to get - both my horses now go in this girth and I will never go back. I also got two fleece covers - worth the cost.

No more saddle slipping, no more girthy horses and crankiness when the girth is tightened. Both are going so much better. Our lateral work and canter pirouettes are so much better.

Girths are getting better.

This seems to be more perplexing than it should be. I am on the hunt for a dressage girth. It doesnt need to be an anatomical girth, but it does need to be made from leather and not made in China. Any ideas? I have tried several places like Dover, Smart Pak, and several others but no luck. TIA
About five years ago I got irritated by never finding a girth that worked–ears back, stiff walking, gait infringement at elbow. I bought about thirty girths (tried for five minutes) and literally sent all of them back. Currently, IMHO the best commercial girth out there is the Stubben Equisoft–IF it fits your horse, and IF you can get one. If you don’t mind weird workmanship the Girth Shield is a winner.
Here are the two big girth problems: 1. squeezing the lower rib cage–the body of the horse descends as the horse makes contact with ground, expanding at the lower ribs. Equisoft and Girth Shield address this. 2. Elbow infringement. The bigger you make the base, and the more far forward it goes, the worse the infringement gets. This is a real problem that all the so called anatomic girths actually make worse. The horse is forced to abbreviate the standing phase of the stride early because the girth hurts their elbow. Put your fingers there and walk your horse. You’ll see.

Good for you for looking and caring!

I’ll second the person who suggested Nunnfiner. I use the Passage on my gelding and the Piaffe on my more sensitive mare. Good quality girths, comfortable for the horse, and holds the saddle in place without having to tighten until you and your horse are blue in the face.

I have a new condition (used 5 times) Total Saddle Fit Girth. 28". Need it gone.

They last a very long time, I use sheepskin ones these days but I still have my Prestige girths on hand in several sizes.

I’d say it depends on your horse. My previous horses did great in a simple wintec girth (probably made in China). My current horse didn’t like it as much, the saddle moved onto his withers. He ended up going best in a Fairfax anatomical leather girth. I tried a bunch before I purchased. Can you try different girths before buying to see what works with your horse?
