I came across my ISO lease horse ad a few weeks ago and had to laugh. “Small horse or pony” somehow turned into a 16.2 Warmblood chestnut mare, who is amazing and teaching me so, so much.
Oh absolutely I had one of those! My supposed project that wasn’t very sellable, that against all odds became a local lower level eventing star. His story is here: (https://eventingnation.com/a-tribute-to-the-no-name-mighty-mouse/).
After a looong time out of the saddle, I went to a local dressage barn to take some lessons. I’m petite, so I asked for a smaller horse and rode a cute little Morgan who was fun, but my body felt like I’d been hit by a truck after.
As luck would have it, the next week the little Morgan was under the weather so I was put on a 17 hand DWB mare, and who knew?! We clicked and now I’m riding her once a week and having so much fun! You never know.
Oh, I know this feeling! I once went on a trail ride on a young Tennessee Walking Horse. I swear I felt like I was hit by a truck the next day, too! So different.
OMG, I rode a gaited horse once at my neice’s barn. I was in one of those Aussie saddles which was hard as a rock, and just at a walk I could not handle that gait at all! My hips were screaming at me for two weeks after!
