The last vestiges of English have left me. I now ride with a ponytail!

It’s cool. (Yours kinda had the same effect on me. )

I like this thread, and I miss my QH buddy so I enjoy checking in on the western threads sometimes. Your OP reminded me of how great it felt when I switched from English-saddle dressage to western!

i ride with my thin hair in a pony tail up on the back of my head, with a barrette. ALWAYS A HELMET! For showing, I put my hair in a bun at the nape of my neck with a pretty pin in it…usually something blingy.

Mostly Kerritts riding tights, sometimes jeans. Paddock boots and short English spurs.

My bridle has brass studs on it for some bling, brow band and throat latch. Silver bridle is a one-ear, no throat latch bridle. Morgan.

.

Welcome to letting your hair down.
-Another ponytail dangler.

I still ride in a bun, I don’t think I will ever be able to let it go!

But I also school in half chaps or tall boots and breeches despite being in a western saddle. I just can’t do the jeans thing. Old habits die hard!
I just bought a western saddle to use to restart my OTTB, I figured I’d feel more secure in the tack than in my jump saddle, but was wondering how ridiculous I’d look wearing my breeches and tall boots! I just can’t fathom riding in jeans…maybe I’ll throw on my cowboy boots over my breeches. Now THAT would be a good look  I’m glad I’m in good company!

If you have traditional western fenders, you won’t get rubs like you do with English saddles and stirrup leathers, so jeans are fine.

Riding without a helmet is just plain stupid. You are putting yourself at risk, and you are putting your family and loved ones at risk. But, I guess it is Darwin-ism at work.
The helmet Nazi’s have spoken.

Whenever I’m tempted to forget the helmet, I picture my family gathered around my hospital bed saying: and she had a perfectly good helmet in her trunk. :frowning:

Whenever I picture myself trying desparately to recover from a TBI, I realize how much I would suffer knowing that I’ll never ride again and that I could have been in the saddle THAT VERY DAY instead of trying to learn how to feed myself again.

So, ya, I’m a proud helmet ENTHUSIAST.

Good for you.

At least you are not disparaging other riders and calling them stupid.

I ride English with a helmet and pony tail. I have always found it weird that the English people are so concerned about hair. Yes I do the “right thing” when I show but I think it’s pretty stupid.

Riding with a pony tail isn’t Western - it’s just not H/J/D.

Everyone here forgets the red-headed step child of English riding - saddleseat. Pony tails and jeans are socially acceptable there too. I’ve seen quite a bit of camouflage too.

I hadn’t heard saddle seat called that before but you’re right! LOL

People do tend to forget about it.
