The New England Equitation Championships

out of curiousity, since this medal is only 3’3, why are so many of the USET/Medal/Maclay kids here? It seems odd that many of them have top ten placings at those big finals, are doing high jr. jumpers, yet are in a 3’3 medal final.

or maybe the question should be, why isn’t this class 3’6?
Its a stepping stone class, big enough but accessible to those just coming off the 3’ Childrens classes. The rules of this Final allow those who have qualified, which they may have done at any time after last years cut off date, to compete in the Final they qualified for. In other words, they may have qualified a full year ago and since moved up. Every Medal sets their own criteria, USEF does not run them.

JMO but part of what makes this Finals a big deal is for many it’s their first chance to compete against some of the big guns and see how they stack up in a more relaxed and social environment then Indoors without needing quite as much horse.

That was lovely to watch, thanks for posting it!
You’re welcome.

This same rider was second (out of 240+) in the USEF Medal Finals at Harrisburg last week, and I believe she is only 13 years old. Safe to say she shows some promise for the future.

The announcer said she was the youngest winner ever, plus part of the only mother-daughter duo to have both won the class!

Yes, it would be fun to see her win the Maclay Finals, since her mom won them in '83. We haven’t seen a parent-offspring duo win the Medal or the Maclay Finals for a while. I’m not sure a mother and daughter have ever pulled that off. In the past, I think it’s only been done by a father and son pair. Unless someone else knows of one?

She has plenty of time to work on it, that’s for sure. Best of luck to her.

Sng Mia Song, you can go back! Alumni class next year  All Champions and Reserve Champions will be invited.
Alas, I was the reserve–as in 11th. It’s also been a long, long time since I equitated!

Linda actually won in 1984, the year after she won the Maclay finals. I had the unfortunate luck to be the next in the order right after her that year. It was held at Shallowbrook, where you walk up long, narrow chute to get to the ring. Of course, it was packed with throngs of people bustling up there to watch Linda’s trip. As the on-deck rider, I had to do an “excuse me, pardon me” wading through to get up to the gate. Linda went out, I walked in, picked up my canter and circled back toward the stands…and everybody was gone, except my mother and my trainer!
