Yeah, I don’t see this comeback lasting too long. How many other jobs has he had since his retirement from riding? His resume’ would put me off if I was looking to hire [/QUOTE]
Still feel the same?

I think Toadie’s Mom, at the time of Gary’s return to racing, was echoing my own comments of questioning how long Gary’s interest would be held with racing again.
I’m the first say I had absolute doubts and obviously I stand fully corrected with his string of successes. The fact his knees aren’t killing him (which was the driver of his original retirement) likely helped him stay on track initially. Right now he’s so in the zone that it’s not only rewarding, but it must be down right fun for him.
If he stays injury free this will be one heck of a good year.
ETA - Jay Hovdey Oct 2, 2013: “Gary Stevens getting his second wind” - a great bit of insight
“The comeback’s over,” he said. “I’m back. The comeback was the first two months. Believe it or not, I’m just now getting to what I consider a level of full fitness, a place I haven’t been for 16 years. People were worried – including myself – if this body was going to hold up. I didn’t know where I’d be when October hit, but I feel better now than I did the last 10 years I rode before I retired in '05. In fact, when I was on eight last Saturday, I felt better riding the last four than I did the first four. That’s like the old days.”

Exactly! He certainly didn’t have a good track record (pun intended) with his various pursuits after his 1st retirement from riding. That, and living with an “athletic” husband who has major knee problems, I just didn’t see this lasting. Anyway, good for him. Hope he continues to stay healthy!
