The Tanheath Intro to Hunting Clinic, or believing that my pony & I really could hunt

I’m waiting for more photos, but here are a few:

And this link is my friend’s Facebook page, I think it’s public but I’m not sure:

Sounds like Mahindra loves it as much as you do! Yay! Have fun!

The western rider was an Idaho rancher/lawyer (my boyfriend’s cousin) who’d been high school all-around rodeo champion. Bull rider, bronc rider, roper - a real ranch hand. And very very very soft and light on a horse (for a long tall drink of water on the horse.)
He may come back this fall - his daughter is at an east coast marine base.

We need pictures of him this time. Boy, will he break a bunch of myths about foxhunters.

KOOL-AID! KOOL-AID! KOOL-AID!!! :encouragement:

I remember his white cowboy hat!

You should ask JSwan how I made a simple deer hunting/cooking conversation with said Cowboy into the social gaffe of the season. I’m still blushing.

Hinderella-- I am so happy for you! I will always remember your first time out, and how you had the best time, and how you had the best cubbing jacket on the planet!

Glad to see you drank the whole pitcher of Kool-Aid!

Kudos to Tanheath for doing a wonderful job of creating new foxhunters. Hunter’s Rest sucks 'em in, and Tanheath finishes 'em! Great cooperation!

Keep your heels down, chin up and remember to put the lid on your flask before you put it back in your pocket! Happy Hunting!

I think that the Hunting Princess court needs to consider adding a sparkly wand to Hinderella’s regalia. She’s bringing along the newbies within her reach. Lucky Tanheath to have her!

I’m just soo happy for her:D

Thank you Timely Impulse! Yes, it’s a lovely jacket indeed  I’m planning to lend it to my young friend for our first hunt (unless they’re formal by then). I hope it will bring her the same luck and excitement that it brought to me.

And perhaps I’ll bring some CT folks with me on my next trip to VA.

princess wand

note: do NOT google pink “magic wand” on the work computer with your supervisor looking over your shoulder. She will not believe it was an innocent mistake or that it’s all in good foxhunting fun.

Ahem, Given the seriousness of the occasion, and frequency of use, Here’s one to consider:

This little number is compact, works in the dark for those early mornings, can be used for “encouragement”, and has replaceable batteries, since we know it will go with any of Hinderella’s fashionable hunt attire.

I also found the “My Lttle Pony” ones:

I’m not sure there is a pony in there, but you may have better eyes than mine.

So far, no fox hunting theme wands. I guess we have to create our own insignia and orb…

Filleabeana, heck, I’m 8 hours from the nearest hunt too (okay, I exaggerate, only 6 hours from one meet in Nevada). I just take week at a time holidays or at a minimum, will haul that long when one of several hunts has a happening that involves three consecutive days of hunting. You would I expect be welcome at any of these. In a western saddle.

Hinderella…good on you and Mahindra. Now- you know y’all can do it, so ride like that and expect it from her. And breathe. Expect some junior high cockiness once she’s been out a few times and ‘knows what’s coming’- and be prepared to re-sharpen Miss Know It All’s listening skills.

A quarter horse I hunted for 20 years was always very possessive- from day 1-of ‘his’ hounds- happily we whipped in for most of those 20 years but hunting as a guest in the field periodically could sometimes be umm, interesting! Like the time he blew past Cinzano (yes Randy laughed and graciously yielded) to a tight coop because he was so p*ssed at the number of horses blocking his view of the pack.

I’ve taken two of my Arabs out to the Tanheath clinics in the ast, and they’ve been wonderful experiences.
They do a fantastic job with these events.

I’m hoping to get one of my current boys out in the field one of these days.

But I finally believe that maybe I can hunt. On my own. On my pony. And for that, I am eternally grateful to my COTH friends.[/QUOTE]

We all believed in you and knew you could.

I’m so happy you hooked up with a great club and had a good time. I can’t wait for more reports. Good job!!!

Thank you all for your help and encouragement. And thank you Beverley for reminding me to expect good behavior from Mahindra
My friend and I have been taking our ponies out on the trails to get them a bit more fit. i ride daily, but usually not over much distance, so we’ve been doing trot sets, working on adjusting our speed and of course, working on the foxhunter’s most important gait: the halt!
I think we’ll try a hunter pace before the big day to practice our riding in a group skills too.

I am sooo happy for you, congrats on the trailer, it makes a big difference:)
