The top BigEq programs: what do they cost?
I’d have to disagree, as some of the big programs in westchester county are charging a LOT more than $1k for board. In fact, medium sizes barns that show, not super fancy, but workmanlike are charging $1k+ just because property taxes are so high.
Sure, $1k for board, but it’s more difficult to break down for barns up here because board + training isn’t often separate as it is so frequently in California.

Board plus the services listed under “care/training” on the KHS sheet totaled $2275. Many of the BNT’s in Westchester or CT just refer to “full care board” which includes the same services but which cost well over $3k and are often over $4k/month. Many of those barns then serve up an a la carte bill for miscellaneous items like holding for vet or and upcharge for handling vet bills.

…and here I was thinking full care board for $550 was getting expensive.

Karen’s prices seem INCREDIBLY reasonable for California with a trainer like her. Personally I’m paying 850 a month, just for board, not full care, lessons are 55. 1095 plus we have 3 horses.

Last time I looked at a rate sheet for BNT in Westchester (2 years ago?- my friend was moving to the area) they were all pretty much the same. $3800/ month, give or take a couple hundred. That includes everything, pro rides as many as needed, lessons as many or as few as you want. I think she pays extra for body clipping. Andre did require more than one horse, OSF did not. I think that’s part of the allure of OSF, the rich who are not “rich enough” for Andre. (Well that, and they’re not thieves )

So did we ever figure out what prices are like for any of the top BNTs- Andre, Stacia Missy? I would think that missy is more expensive because she has to ride your horse all the time as her clients aren’t really going to vt very often. andre seems very expensive, as seen in the lawsuit papers (is $100 per day daycare really the norm???). Stacia seems like the least expensive as she is also the only one that has kids do well who only have one horse, not the three horses at $100+ a day that is the norm elsewhere.
Well, can anyone comment on my assumptions???

Day care refers to care at horse shows and that is the norm in many show barns, not just the top tier. Although the invoices from Andre add up to quite a bit, the actual charges are on par with many show barns.

Additionally, many of the BNTs actually work on a retainer.

From personal experience, 10K per month per horse is the realistic rate and that excludes WEF, or a lot of Indoor showing. There is always extras whether vet works, i.e. hock injections, massage therapists, etc. When you go to horseshows the daily care is on average $125 more for Indoor shows. Andre does not require you to have more than one horse but in reality if you’re going to compete in the circuit you most likely can’t survive with one. It is difficult but some have done it.(they can’t expect to do well at every horseshow or have a top horse at their disposal as whoever pays gets the horse) This is not a criticism but rather a realistic look at the business. They do have some ws with different level of payments. Every one pays something.
