The Triple Crown Races 2019

Oh no! I hope he’s ok. The horse rolled over him…

The horse looks ok. On replay I don’t think the horse rolled over him.

Serengeti Empress wins.

This is not a chronic condition like a roarer. He hasn’t been racing with this. It’s an acute displacement that just happened. Mandella even said in one story that Spendthrift’s vets had scoped him a few days earlier related to the breeding rights deal. The problem didn’t exist then, or that test would have shown it.

You and me both

Love to see him at both Keeneland and Churchill Downs

Positive Spirit tossed Manny Franco a bit in front of her shoulder when she went down. Manny was up and looking down the track as she galloped off.

Glad the outriders were so prompt in catching her so she couldn’t interfere with the rest of the race at all.

Yeeha.

Rock stars, all of them.

I just wonder why post time is so late. It seems to get later every year. When I first started watching, it seemed to be around 4:30 - 5pm.

Agreed. Happens frequently in the Grand National.

Wasn’t there a similar occurrence with a horse some years ago?

my guess about the time moving late is paid advertising. But then it messes with the end when they show the replay. Ever since MS won with Zenyatta, at BC I think they have walked back from pulling up, and it takes much longer to get back. That seems to slow things down, and then it runs past the top of the hour when the satellite signal is to go elsewhere.

Thank you for cluing me in!

Thanks, LaurieB. I guess I thought it was a congenital condition.

It’s a not infrequent occurrence (that often resolves by itself). Maybe you’re thinking of Roadster who is also running in the Derby? He entrapped and had surgery last year.

Thanks, no, this was several years ago. I had never heard of it before so I’m remembering it now, just can’t remember the name of the horse.

It’s later to boost the West Coast TV ratings and, more important, to accommodate similcast bettors and pump up the take. Used to go around 4pm EDT putting it at lunch time out on the coast. Now PDT post is around 3:30. Much more civilized.

Lord Stanley’s Cup, the NHL traveling trophy. Is in the winners circle at Churchill. Filled with a Woodford Reserve Mint Julep. Nice touch, classy and appropriate.

Anyway, I’ll be honest and reveal my choices. I did have Serengeti Empress yesterday, no money on anything today but prefer to stick with going for 8-1 or so or better, as yesterday and so far today, favorites have not fared that well, hinting at a return to the avoid the favorite in the KD that prevailed for so long.

I’l go for Code of Honor, like Shug, nice horse, his are always well prepared.

Irad Ortiz is on a hot streak yesterday and today, gets Improbable. Many questions but… His brother turned down Improbable to ride Tacitus. If I was betting, probably go for both. Heck, it’s two bucks each even if improbable looks the fav and Tacitus won’t pay much either. Not betting money so don’t care. Besides, I lost my personal best ever horse last fall ( at 30), she was grey. Very scientific.

Tax has always been my long shot but I’ll add Cutting Humor, why not. If it turns a riders race, it can happen.

Heres hoping they all come home safe and we all have fun watching.

I think it was The Factor, in 2011.

Definitely not Mike Smith’s year.

Market King (Mike’s ride) was scratched from the Pat Day Mile about 5 minutes before post.

Alysheba had an entrapped epiglottis and had surgery before his Bluegrass. In which I think he was DQ’d, but still, Van Berg said that Bluegrass was when he knew the horse was now breathing absolutely fine.

Alysheba was the only Derby I ever saw live at Churchill. Thrilling day but a zoo. If I ever go again, I won’t until I can afford the good seats rather than lowest level.
