Theo - New Bowie Horse Arrival - 4 y/o Saddlebred Gelding

He is going to be STUNNING. I’m so glad you got him, and I can’t wait to see his progress! We’re going to need regular updates.

And he eats treats and likes Purina Replenimash (spelling).
Goats are great teachers to eat all things.

Video of the very cute snoot.

I need to get my work done and quit playing with him. :joy::joy:

What a doll! I admittedly shoved treats into Kinda Kookys boys mouth :joy: “you will love cookies”…it worked.

I just want to know what’s going through their minds when they finally arrive to a safe space. It must be such a relief. He seems to have held on to his good nature and pure sweetness. Love seeing this!

(Being still partial to Jaster - the name of one of my favorite characters - I do still have to admit that Jasper is really cute!)

I am a wealth of really obscure names, and somehow still manage to have a Bandit, Baxter, Bentley, and Ben. In my defense, two of those came with their names…

My horses thought goats were Evil both times they had to live with them, so I’m really impressed at the Chill your boy is exuding. And that FACE! How do you get anything done? I’d be snuggling him and shoving cookies in his face 24/7.

He’s going to be a doll, I’m excited to follow along if you’ll let us!

First day in the bigger pasture. Fingers crossed I can catch him easily. Thankfully he loves dinner time.

Oh you precious boy… my heart is so happy for you. Seeing him run down the lane ant Bowie and now seeing the calm behind his eye is absolutely priceless.

Great change in body language and expression, looks like he was treated kindly before he fell into the auction pipeline. Nice catch. I so love a flaxen tail…

I like Jasper, could call him Jazz and work that into a fancy name should you choose.

Any idea who he is and where he came from? He must have been pretty dehydrated on arrival, his overall shape has filled out quite a bit in 3 days.

Awww I love him!
Thank you for taking a chance on him

Sometimes the sitting posture can be a big ulcer red flag

The kids decided on Theo as his new name. It’s cute and he responds to it already, so I think he likes it.

I’ve been shoving fluids and ulcer meds down him anyway possible so maybe it’s helped. Soaked hay, soaked feed, buckets of water with water additives. Plus plain water. He’s on day 5 of Ulcer guard and Egusin SLH. I’ll taper down ulcerguard this weekend and use the Egusin as he HATES the paste. Super dramatic about it.

He was easily consuming 20 gallons of water the first few days, now he’s down to around 13 gallons. He’s no longer dehydrated, just thin now.

He eats anything you put in front of him, isn’t food aggressive at all. He’s eating 4x a day beet pulp, soaked alfalfa cubes, flax, Vermont Blend plus unlimited grass hay and 10-15 lbs of straight alfalfa.

He’s very sweet but untrusting and beyond sensitive. Definitely going to stretch my skillset with this one.

He really gets into the grooming gloves and then moves around where he has an itch, but then panics when he realizes what he did. I can comfortably go to the shoulder and kinda the withers on the left side, right side is panic central atm.

Oh, poor guy! The underlying desire to trust you is there but he’s hesitant and unsure. It’ll just take time. My guess is he started out fine as a baby, with a sweet disposition, but has been handled roughly and without any personal attention for a while.

He’s pretty now but by the end of summer he’ll be gorgeous!

I’m convinced the flagging at feedlots and that transporters used caused that level of shyness. Every horse I’ve gotten has experienced this from lots! Kinda Kookys boy definitely came out of it the quickest but once in awhile he’ll move off if I move fast and then he just turns around with this “oh wait, am I supposed to move?”look :joy: he is so fun! Can’t wait for her thread once he’s in New Mexico… I’m not wanting him to leave yet haha

One mare was insanely shy on the right. I did a lot of desensitizing but there was always a brace. Her new home seems to have made additional progress. She was the skinniest and most likely went from lot to lot. Hopefully your boy will shake it pretty quick once he realizes this isn’t a pit stop!

You’ve got this. I’m sure he needs time to decompress still, but I bet in a few weeks with consistency he will be a different horse.
