Theo - New Bowie Horse Arrival - 4 y/o Saddlebred Gelding

Ok, if I am seeing things right, I will have eye surgery in 3 weeks, not reliable right now, seems that only his two year old incisors are in.
That would mean the next two should shed and permanent ones come in this summer/fall, indicating he is three now, the last two next summer as he turns four?

Ask your vet?

He is a very regal looking horse, bet his disposition will also be calm.
You both will have a great time forward.

I’ll ask the vet when they come out, but was curious what folks here thought.

My vote was also three! Glad you didn’t lift that lip to a 20 year old :joy::joy:

I would have been ok with a 20 y/o. I love a good senior.

I was hoping he was 4, but all good. I texted his pics to a retired vet today who thinks he was a young 3 y/o.

He’s more comfortable with us and has discovered grooming gloves are amazing and kids are treat dispensers. He doesn’t like carrots, he likes apples, but not the peel. He thinks banana-flavored goat treats are weird but if the goats eat them, so will he.

I love that he’s a goat guy! He’s very particular with his snacks :joy: so glad he’s settling in well

It seemed like such a long wait to get him there and all of a sudden he’s been there a week! He’s a lucky boy to be brought in now from the storms!

There are two types of skinny horses (1) always been skinny and never had good nutrition and (2) used to be well cared for but hit a rocky patch in life recently and lost a good bit of weight. He looks to me like situation #2. And those kind will recover so much faster and easier than the former. His neck does not have that malnutrition look. He just looks tucked up and ribby from recent lack of food and stress. Sounds like he is making up for lost time.

And he broke through the fence this morning in the dry lot. He visited the neighbor with the pony and goats.

Thankfully, it took about 30 seconds to catch as he knows what a treat bag sounds like. My pony was getting scratches from the neighbor so he enjoyed himself during the jail break.

The fencing was put up with boards on the outside and looks like he leaned on it, popped the top two boards off pushed the wire down and just walked over. Everyone else followed.

Now I have to up the priority on replacing the dry lot fencing.

So, in addition to his other good qualities, he’s a social animal and enjoys hobnobbing with others! :+1:

A friend had an ASB that liked trotting around and around the trees in the pasture. At first the goat would join in, but after awhile it would watch as the two horses did their ‘round the mulberry bush’ shenanigans.

It’s called his chef adds too much water to his cubes and he dives to the bottom to get the good stuff then drinks the green tea.

I’ll have to recreate the alfalfa /beet pulp soup tomorrow.
