What about stock tie pins? My trainer has us wearing them but I thought they were passé?

No pins. The snap collar shirts are in for good reason - they are comfortable adn nothing to lose!

DD will be rocking a lovely dark sage green jacket this spring on her big dapple gray mare. I cannot wait to see it. They’re doing a little in the hunter ring for experience, but it’s not like anyone is going to see a hunter.

Don’t be sorry for asking questions! You would wear a stock tie with a shadbelly in hunter classics and hunter derbies or in dressage shows with either a dressage coat or dressage shadbelly

I only show locally (and for fun!) at my local horse shows. Didn’t show last year due to having a baby, but 2015 was my first year doing any English classes. Nothing I purchased was expensive (minus the saddle!) and I think we still looked pretty darn put together for a small local show!

Of course, just like you are doing, I asked COTHers for advice on what to wear!

That would be me; thanks for remembering. Yup, pink shirt with the charcoal gray jacket. My “go-to”, and we’ve won enough classes that I can say with utmost confidence that your wardrobe is actually almost irrelevant as long as the basics are met in terms of the proper boots, helmet and other fundamentals. Wear breeches that you think are comfortable and fit you well; no one can tell what brand they are below the hem of your coat and above the tops of your boots. I’m not buying into all the fears that an extra button on your jacket will DQ you somehow. I have judged a lot of schooling shows and never noticed whether somebody has stitching on their noseband or whether their saddle is a shade darker or lighter than the bridle. Honestly, a hunter round happens so quickly and there’s so much to watch in terms of what the horse is doing that I often have no recollection of what color a rider’s shirt was. Go have fun with it!!!
