For what it’s worth, I was okay with most of the Unbranded movie. The horse rolling down the hillside also made me cringe. Probably worse than this scene.
Just got to that part, bleh.
Now they have lost a bunch of their horses when they spooked.
Yeah I thought they guys were a bit dumb in some of the horsey choices they made. I wouldn’t watch it again.
Ben Masters, one of the guys in Unbranded, has a monthly article about packing adventures in Western Horseman. It is always well written and fun to read.
I enjoyed the movie.
I watched the movie over the weekend. Loved the videography and the scenary. Still, I was a bit ‘angry’ that two horses got hurt and couldn’t continue. One horse fell down a cliff and was injured but continued the ride. One horse died. They were loose herding their extra horses, and those horse getting out of their control seemed to happen on a regular basis. They made comments about how good their horses looked, but I saw horses with obvious rub marks from saddles and saddle pads. Not what I would consider to be in good shape.
Again, great to watch for the videography and the stunning landscape, but I don’t think I wil watch it again.
It’s funny because after seeing the movie, I googled this question and it lead me here. Where everyone here is referencing the movie… So I talked to some veterinarians. The only one that could answer that was the one who specializes in horses.
“Horses are very sociable animals. Though dangerous by size and strength. domesticated horses would sooner let you pull them out than wild ones but in the end. They slowly and surley will comply.” *In the movie, Jason eventually goes to do this long and dangerous task. The horse flinches but refrains from hitting him.
STILL! If you don’t know the horse… You may as well try taking them out of a bear.
