This is a big step for me.

I decided to do BN ASAP at my next event. This is huge for my weenie self. I probably could have stayed at Tadpole/Starter for a while with my weenie re-rider self and been perfectly happy. But my last CT- recap here: http://ridingwithscissors.com/2013/12/13/ct-rife-with-boredom-says-ollie/) convinced me to move up.

GULP.

I only ever showed in Hunters to 2’3"!

I thought I would be in your shoes but our last show proved me wrong. We were in second place in the schooling show right before the recognized show, our dressage score was 4th and I thought all was well until cross country. 3 refusals on CC because the now formally boring jumps were all decorated with tall grasses, flowers and gulp, a jump judge! We are fox hunting over the winter to hopefully make the both of us braver. Starter next year for us. I love your blog, by the way. You are fun to read! I will be doubly interested now that you are moving up!!

Ok, so now you have to tell us when your next event is, so that we can cheer you on!!

And, I also appoint you in charge of heading the committee for that camp we keep talking about – YOU are clearly making progress. I’m just sitting around whining 'cause I need another new saddle . .

Seriously, when are you making the leap?!

you will second guess yourself like 50 times, not sleep the night before. Panic all the way to the horse trial, wonder who you can pay to take you home before you have to jump anything…
and somewhere, maybe in SJ, maybe not till fence 3 on xc, but somewhere, all that will go away and you will have the biggest grin on your face!

Thanks, y’all! Cindy, I’m sure fox hunting will do you guys a world of good in terms of confidence! Much luck to ya.

And Asterix, I second guess myself about everything, so I’m sure this will be no different. I’ve “been told” by my trainer and also my Enforcer friend Sarah that I will be doing the Chatt Hills schooling show in February. Aaaah!!

I also actually DO have ideas for the camp, Libby! Been meaning to message you and will soon.

lol–love your blog. Far more fun than the agreement that I’m supposed to be reading but falling asleep so taking a break to read COTH

You will do fine!

Honestly, the only real problem I foresee is Ollie having enough propulsion in stadium. Because… Molasses. So much molasses, y’all .

Sooooo ready to put a hurtin’ on some BN! You’re going to rock it out!

Have a blast and report back

Good luck! You will have an absolute blast! I’m hoping to hit that schooling show at Chatt Hills in Feb, we should say hi! I’ve absolutely adored your blog!

Absolutely! Would love to say hi to anyone who’s going to be there

Hmmm – I could possibly, potentially put that one on our calendar too . . . but, that means I have to get to actually RIDING. Sigh.

I’ve never seen your blog before and I am hooked! So much fun!

Not going to lie, my first BN I cantered around on a springy show jumping canter on my pony and got 10 time faults! She even stopped to look at the water like “mom you put the breaks on to trot, you obviously saw something in the shiney pool of wet stuff, I must look too”.

But the more steady and forward we got the more fun it was. I came off my first N XC with the biggest adrenaline rush! And let’s just say I made sure to pee before I got on, I was so scared!

DO IT! Would love to meet in person  And having a goal always makes you work harder!

Yeah, I foresee a gazillion time faults in our future. Hell, we had them at our Tadpole three-phas on XC because we trotted nearly everything! We are trusting each other more, and I’ve found me carrying a dressage whip instead of a regular crop makes him listen to my leg more, so I’m hoping he’s going to get retrained to it a bit better soon. He’s just so damn lazy. As honest as the day is long, but laaaaaazy.

Yeah Libby…

That would be a blast to have a CoTH get together there! I HATE going solo so having others around taking the baby to his first 3-phase would be AWESOME

Awesome!!! Can’t wait to read that report – you will so much fun. Ollie says he just wants something to actually JUMP, woohoo!

Yay for you! My plan (if I EVEH get through this winter!) is to do another starter at the beginning of the season, and end the season being successful at BN. In the meantime, I can ride vicariously through you!

So my Enforcer rode with me tonight and put the jumps all up in the 2’6-7" range, including one wide oxer. Ollie definitely woke up!! He put in a real effort and got himself off the forehand without my help. He also locked onto jumps
Four strides out and picked up his pace. I have hope we can do this
