This is a big step for me.

I thought I would be in your shoes but our last show proved me wrong. We were in second place in the schooling show right before the recognized show, our dressage score was 4th and I thought all was well until cross country. 3 refusals on CC because the now formally boring jumps were all decorated with tall grasses, flowers and gulp, a jump judge! We are fox hunting over the winter to hopefully make the both of us braver. Starter next year for us. I love your blog, by the way. You are fun to read! I will be doubly interested now that you are moving up!![/QUOTE]

I did my first starter this year and had only one issue XC

I did my 2nd starter and maresie said…

  • eek, a pumpkin!
  • Eeeeek, a golf cart!!
  • NFW!!!!!!! to corn stalks tied to flags rattling in the breeze (maresie has never outright refused any jump and she was not going to go one step closer to those corn stalks of doom...

Additional schooling required, yes.

I got butterflies in my stomach for you! I’ll be eventing vicariously through your blog which is fantastic! One day your undifferentiated gonads will grow into actual balls, I see it!

Thanks, y’all! You eventer folk are so dang supportive

Good for you! Looking forward to hearing/reading your results!

Ok so the mound rides REALLY well I have to say. When I showed recognized BN there it was up an up bank, down a down bank then the jump and for some reason ALL of the horses loved it MUCH more than their riders! I’m leaning towards the tadpole 3phase with the little man just to be conservative but…I can’t decide!

Painted Hunter,

Just trot the ones you’re worried about. The year I actually got my mare going we trotted every starter event and our first BN CT. There is no shame in going the speed you’re comfortable with. In the end you are doing this for yourself, so you’re only accountable to you and its supposed to be fun. So if keeping it fun means trotting part or all of the course then do it. Rooting for you and Ollie and we’ll expect a full report with photos once you’ve shown that course your da boss!

You’re so right! I am sure I will have some trotting on XC, and will probably have a gazillion times faults again. But that’s OK  My goal for the first BN is to complete it, and not fall off.
