disclaimer this is not my horse, but a horse I want more info on. any info appreciated!

It says he died in 2003.
I know that Boulder Dam stood in California at Madera Thoroughbreds but he has been gone many years now. I think it is unlikely that they froze semen from him since they bred racehorses and not for the sport market, but stranger things have happened I guess.
He is actually the sire of a mare I’m looking at. Her breeder crossed a sultan (KWPN) mare to him. I’m just curious of what they were trying to accomplish. If there us any info I can glean about him through an independant search. I was hoping to find any kind of info on him!
Your best bet is probably to try to contact the farm that stood the stallion for more information about him.

Good luck!
I would do it to add blood to a mare and for some of the good jumping lines he has in his pedigree.
Thanks, weixiao, those were my thoughts…I just am pretty ignorant on thoroughbred sport bloodlines.
Nice damline on that stallion. Hopespringseternal was a solid foundation broodmare for Overbrook.
It’s a respectable Cal racing pedigree-- not bad for sport, either, but it is mildly surprising to think he was bred to a Dutch WB for sport. Seattle Slews tend to have an appealing neck/shoulder angle, but he’s a bit inconsistent for sport…depends on the mare influence (IMO).
Thanks aj, I was really hoping he had some kind of sport pedigree in there that I just couldn’t find by googling. I can’t even find a picture for conformation to evaluate! it’s a cute mare though, just my type.
double post
I don’t think Seattle Slew is the most desirable line out there for sport but I have seen grand-children of his I like a lot. Round Table, Jet Pilot, and Hail to Reason are lines that I like for jump. His dam has a nice pedigree for sport. My understanding is that ND wasn’t particularly popular in Europe but is a good athletic line. As mentioned, Hopespringseternal is a very nice mare to have and Buckpasser/Tom Fool have been very good lines for sport and you have several lines through Bull Lea/Teddy which I believe were historically something of “must haves” for jumping TBs.
Based on what I’ve read in Dr. Birdsall’s research, if you like the mare in front of you, there wouldn’t be anything in this pedigree that would put me off her based on this pedigree. If you do a search for some of the above names in this forum you’ll find a lot of information (and probably better information than I can give you). I don’t have as strong an opinion about Seattle Slew as some people do, so that is something to note, but on paper I’d be intrigued by this horse as a sport horse and I wouldn’t scratch the mare because of it.
There are three horses registered with USEF by him (could be that he has produced more and they just don’t have him listed as a sire). One doesn’t have recent results, one seems to be doing some hunters and jumpers, and the other evented through training level.
Forgive my lack of skills…but how did you search that weixiao? Or do you have a direct link to the usef search, that is?
I don’t think it lets me link directly but go here:
https://www.usef.org/_IFrames/Searches/horseResults.aspx
And then type in his name in the “sire” box. You won’t need to put in any other information.
aaahhhh…that’s what I was able to find, but I think my iPad is blocking ‘pop-ups’ and I have no idea how to stop it. The mare I’m looking at is said to have lovely hunter movement, but I haven’t seen her in person yet-hopefully in the next couple of days!

I was told by a german breeder friend that with the exception of Sadler’s Wells, ND was a less desired line for jumping horses due to perceived frailness of his front legs. This is purely anecdotal, and I’m not holding it out as fact, just my understanding and what I was told. I’m happy to stand corrected if this isn’t the case.
If you are referring to sport/jumping breeders, OK. Northern Dancer was the stallion that made KY sales international events. Almost all of his stakes winners were in Europe.
ND was small and sired smallish horses in general so I can see why he might not have been overly popular for sport, where many prefer a bigger horse. Also, many of his sons ended up at stud in the US (the Minstrel, Nureyev, Nijinsky, Danzig, Lyphard,Storm Bird) so while they raced in Europe, many of their foals arrived here. Sadlers Wells was arguably his best son at stud, and did stand in Europe, thus their familiarity with him.
Yes, sorry, sport horses only. I assumed the OP wasn’t particularly interested in race breeding and I don’t know anything about that. It could also be that my friend was talking about his own breeding program and I misunderstood I suppose.
This horse had ND twice in the pedigree but it is a bit far back:

I don’t know if my experience with the Northern Dancer line is typical, but I had Northern Dancer granddaughter that passed away at the age of 23 a few years ago. She raced (albeit not very successfully), became a broodmare to a number of foals who excelled at sport careers (one of which was a CCI eventer), was inspected and approved MMB by GOV at the age of 20, received exceptional comments at her inspection, and remained sound until she passed. I have her last foal who actually reminds me very much of ND in his conformation. Here is a link to our mare: http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10467968. From my experience I would not hesitate if I saw ND in a pedigree.
Also, having spent a number of years in Ireland, I recall there were a number of excellent hurdlers/steeplechasers that have/had Saddlers Wells (ND) in their pedigrees, so clearly they were able to withstand the pounding that racing at speed over jumps would do to their front end. Saddlers Wells himself stood at Coolmore for a mere 500k euro at the time. He was an immensely popular sire and I would think (hope) if there were soundness issues it would have been made known.
