Thorowgood T4 endurance (Jill Thomas)

FYI there is one posted on Tacktrader.com today for someone looking for one. And two on Ebay. No more saddle browsing for me… Our current saddle is lovely. I do not need another saddle…

So yesterday, knowing that it was going to be in the high fifties and knowing that the trails around my barn are STILL snow- and ice-covered, I took my horse to the park 10 miles away, where of course there was hardly any snow left. Go figure. I actually had to dig out the trailer with an axe, because the guy who plowed the driveway plowed the trailer in. Sigh. Several hours later, I finally get to the park to try out the new saddle!

I’m happy to report that it totally rocks. We only did about 6 miles or so, because he’s had a month off and I didn’t want him to overdo. But they were a FAST 6 miles… so much for taking it easy, when the hot ayrab refuses to take a break  I think the thing I like the best about it was the fact that it completely anchored my lower leg, even when posting a big extended trot and when trotting downhill. Oh, and also during the crowhopping part and the spooking at the horse pulling a carriage (omg doesn’t that horse know something is chasing him!). And I didn’t even have the knee blocks in, because they didn’t arrive in the mail yet. So this was with a totally flat flap, and I still felt 100% secure. I’ve been riding in a wintec isabelle for the last year, and my lower leg was all over the place in it. So this was a really nice change.

The other thing I really liked was the shallowness of the seat. I don’t know if you can really see it in my pictures, but the seat is kind of shallow. It has a cantle like an AP or dressage saddle, but not as deep a seat as you would normally see in one of those - kind of in between a close contact and AP. It was really comfortable for posting, because I didn’t feel like I was falling into it, just coming down for a quick touch and then right back up again. I have a feeling that will be really comfortable for my horse’s back during long trot sets.

So I’m keeping it - sorry if any of you are on the waiting list

I am so glad you like it! It is an awesome saddle!

Woot!
