Thorowgood's Jill Thomas Endurance Saddle

I am just not ready to go treeless. To me, it would be like me running or walking in a slipper. My archless feet need firm support. I think trees have something to offer if they are fitted right. But I have many endurance friends who ride in them .

I am really anxious to see what the saddle fitter has to say next week!

Wouldn’t say the Baretek is a treeless, more of a very suped (?sp.) up bareback pad with blocks in the front and a shape like a cantle, but no stirrups. I’ve found it good for working on my position until we get a real saddle.

Look forward to what your saddle fitter says about the Thorowgood Endurance. What type of horse do you have?

I love Thorowgood saddles in general and I have 3. I dont think you can beat them for price. I did try a Jill Thomas about 4 years ago and although it appeared to fit my horse, and I really liked riding in it, his back was majorly sore after an endurance ride- the only time that has happened. I was really surprised and I ended up selling it. I ended up spending the money to buy a DeSoto for him and absolutely love it.

15H, 1200lb Morab. Might as well be all Morgan for how he is built. His withers match his back. Yes- he is a big muscled horse for an endurance mount, but we really love being out on the trails, can complete, and only occasionaly place, but it is really good for keeping his weight down.

I cannot wait until Saturday! A friend of mine is going to let me borrow her Thorowgood and her Marciante, so I will have 5 saddles to be evaulated. There’s gotta be ONE in that bunch that works!

Does anyone trail ride (I do CTRs) in a Thorowgood Dressage saddle?

Sorry, Bearcat. I know people who start doing endurance in dressage saddles, but not the Thorowgood specifically.

Great news!

Found the US Distributor for the Jill Thomas!

Let me know if you are interested in their info!

She does not have them on her website yet, but you can drop her an email and check on availability. She turns the email around within 24 hours.

Let me know what you find out!

Bummer news:
Snowstorm in MN today forced us to reschedule saddle fitting until next weekend. This is killing me!

How did the saddle fitting go? Just wondering.

Me, too

Can you believe I have been put off again?

How about if I promise a new post on this issue if it ever happens? She keeps wanting to reschedule for a weekday and I just cannot do it. Poor thing, she is trying so hard for me!

I have confirmed thoguh that you can order a Jill Thomas from that website. VERY cool!

Saddle fitting was TODAY!!!

Well- he’s huge. She said he has a back like a table. YUP! That’s my boy!

Strangely enough, my wide tree Smith Worthington is too wide for him.

My Tucker is too narrow.

The Thorowgood was given a pretty good evaluation! Ha! That was the first saddle I bought, and then sold it to a friend!

Our final choice is the Thornhill trail in a 32" tree. I am getting one Monday!

So that is my story. Saddles are at the tack swap as we speak. They were both hard to let go of, but just because of memories. I do not need the types of memories they have been causing lately!

Congrats! Hope you have many miles of happy riding in your new saddle.
