Thoughts on Rubinio

Now newly approved Hanoverian, what are your thoughts on Rubinio (Rubin Royal - Florestan). His performance record is impressive, does he have any offspring on the ground?

Sure enough a nice horse. As you probably know, his sire is a full brother to Edward Gal’s Olympic hopeful, Romanov. And damsire Florestan I’s contributions to the world of dressage are nearly immeasurable.

I believe Rubinio has been recently honored with the designation “NRW” for his show ring success. Many congrats to his breeder, and to Jurgen and Jennifer. Wish them many years of great success.

He’s more than impressive. He’s a piece of art really. Had the pleasure of seeing him in January at Münster (K&K Cup show) and now yesterday at Verden. Note to self: must go and find a mare for him.

Here is the video I took in Münster:

Still working on yesterday’s footage, will take a while. Busy season…

Kareen, what type of mare do you think Rubinio would need?

Since I haven’t seen any foals I can only go by his ancestors. Rubin Royals tend to be on the livelier end and canter can be a week point (evidently not true for Rubinio but like I said before enough foals are on the ground…). Feet can be smaller with many Rohdiamant progeny so that is something I’d bear in mind when using this line.
Florestan needs a great deal of blood as a rule. I wouldn’t be overly concerned to lose frame but it would be probably a good idea to use a mare that isn’t a late bloomer type as nearly all the Romanov’s and Rubin Royals I’ve seen took a long time to develo which may get into the way if you’re looking to sell them early on.
This boy to me looks a lot stronger through the back and his movement comes through the body much nicer than in most dressage stallions I’ve seen recently. Big big bonus!
Ideally I’d want to use him on my Gotenkönig-Perser xx mare however she is reproductively challenged so not sure if I am risking it…
That girl is a tank, a very friendly and sportive tank but a tank lol

It is so refreshingly wonderful to see a straight, face-on video image of the horse trotting so one can see how correct the movement is.

Thank you, Kareen, for sharing this impressive piece of videography!

You’re right. He’s extraordinary. Where is he going to be collected? Has his frozen semen been tested yet (reproductively-speaking, and meaning has anyone tried to get mares bred this year using his frozen yet)?

I had the pleasure to ride with Jennifer and Jurgen before they moved back to Germany. Rubinio is an amazing stallion with great temperament and talent and I’m excited to see what the future holds for this pair
