Ahhh, a retraction of the AA comments:
"I do apolozise i did make a few comments on Anglo Arabs but they were not to be taken serious
My first horse was an anglo Arab and taught me to ride
I hope i didn’t offend anglo arab owners or breeders
"
I liked Mary King’s ride. She’s been doing this a long time, huh? I bet she bred that horse?
Did someone call it a f*****g camera? Could you hear it?
^yes and yes

She did not breed him…
Rebecca,
your thoughts on the last horse (french), has back seemed so tight that there was a disconnect between the hind end and the front end. I would not say he showed purity in his paces.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered before - I haven’t read through all 20 pages.
Are all the event horses running XC on the same day (Monday in Hong Kong)? Am I correct in thinking that the horses who did dressage on Saturday morning will have a day off from competition while today’s half does dressage? Just a hapless h/j person here, but is that tough for an event horse that is accustomed to a certain 3-day schedule? Is the protocol just a light hack for the “rest” day?
Thanks!
Dressage is the only phase that is completed in two days. All other phases are completed in one day. So, if you did dressage on day one, you get a day off. If you did dressage on day two, you do not get a day off. What the riders of the dressage horses that did day 1 do with their day off is probably a very individual thing. most would at least light hack, I would imagine - but it might also depend on the facilities.
The only exception is in the Olympics, is that for the individual gold, you have the second day of stadium jumping. The individual gold was to give the teams that don’t medal an extra chance to bring a medal home to your country. So say, you end the event in first place, but the rest of your team sucked, or your country couldn’t afford to send more than one or two riders. You don’t go home empty handed, you still have a chance. Personally, I think it is a very nice and fair thing to do.

I believe the whacked out (lovely horse but not coping well) Trakehner was from Bulgaria.
Belarus - He’s a Russian Trakehner. I think the poor thing was terrified.

cooper,
because they dont look at that, but just at the overall impresion
Oh Gnep - welcome back to the thread. Have you been watching all day including the replays? I have, and am fully immersed in the details! Promise.
I just want to add that I love what Phillip Dutton says. nbcolympics has a video on ‘the ins and outs of eventing’
Phillip says ‘there is not point in having a great cross country horse if you can’t do the other phases.’
I like the way he emphasizes that it is not just about cross country, but all the phases.
I confess that I went to take a shower during the last French ride. I only saw the very beginning and he did look RAWTHERRRR tense.
How old is Mary King, anyway? I remember a television piece or video about her years ago. And I’m old.
I jumped my little Hanoverian mare Dior* today. I am thinking about taking up eventing. She’s FAST, too. Only thing is, I am such a chicken that we’ll only probably get to do walk-trot tests.
But anyway I think it might be fun.
With dressage going down the tubes with the USEF DC new rule…
Hi all,
Sorry if this question has already been asked, but is NBC showing yesterday evening or this morning’s rides? I can’t seem to find Karen’s, Becky’s, etc rides.
Also, at what time tomorrow will x-country be on the web? I’m in CA.
Thanks for any info!!!
Mary King is 47, has two children, and has ridden in 5 Olympics.
Pretty impressive!
Yup.
OhNo!, I’vel ost all sense of time and place!
I’ve crossed the international date tine, too many times:lol:; which day is cross country . and the date 1th? what time does it start , when does Karen go? thanks to everyone1;you have been a great help!
You would be very surprises at just how small and basic Mary’s yard is. She is proof that you do not require fancy facilities to get the job done. She has converted an old cow barn into stables, has a small arena and a couple of acres of land for turn out. When I say basic, I mean basic. But she is proud of it, has built it from the ground up and ownes it, which is rare in the UK where land and stable yards are usually rented even by the biggest of riders.
She is meticulous about care, preparation, and cleanliness.
What is everyone’s feed like? Are you using starlight or not? My computer does not support it but it works without however I have trouble with it freezing a bunch of times. I have DSL.
ODS,
I got a job, so I can not indulge in watching all day long.
But at that level, between 30 and 40, it is just the detail, horse wobbels of the center line, not on the spot at the changes, maybe just a few inches, or a foot, a slightly more aprupt stop, or haunches drifting.
The top 20 are very, very good and look very good, the differance are those minute details.
Take Marie King, superb job, realy great, but she missed the outside in her canters a few times and the last change was a quarter length behind. It was as great as Klimke’s but Klimke hit every thing on the spot, as the other top 5. Or take Dibowsky excelent test just a little tension al the way through, same for Oconners.
I think the judges were very consistent, fom waht I could watch they robbed nobody.
Its the details not the appearance.
Tomorrow will be rather interestin. Considering that the CD considers time to be impossible.
The first 20 are right now in the medals.
There are going to be some rather wild surprises.

That’s actually not why they run an additional stadium round. All the other championships in eventing (WEG, European, Pan Am, etc) are run with a single dressage test, xc round and stadium round which determines both team and individual medals. The Olympics was also run that way through 1992. However, the IOC has a rule against rewarding 2 medals for one preformance, so they required that the individual and team competitions be separated. Since you can’t run 2 threedays on one horse in one week, that posed a problem.
The initial solution in 1996 was to run a separate individual competition of horse/rider pair who were not on the team. But then you had some of the best riders in the team competition and the individual gold didn’t mean as much. So they adopted the current strategy of running 2 stadium rounds to get around the IOC rule. I think most people would say it is not best for the horses OR the competition, but it is what it is.
Well…After watching the live feed all day, I am very proud of our fellow americans!!
I do believe all 5 of our riders had a personal best in dressage!!
Amy and Poggio were awesome
Gina rode better than ever
Becky blew everyone away
Karen got the best out of young Mandiba
and Phillip really kept Connaught rolling
Fingers crossed for a great XC day for the americans!!!
GO USA!!!
2nd day of the eventing dressage is coming up in 10 minutes. They’re introducing the judges now.
I had to shut down because of a surprise family announcement, so I missed PD (who I really wanted to watch) and the apology for the comments about the AA’s. I’m glad the apology was made, though!
Great laugh at the f***ing camera!
Yeah, Mandiba wasn’t as relaxed as he could be, but he certainly was quite composed for his young age. I think he’s going to be around a long time because of that mental maturity!
Okay, going to attempt a momentary nap here in the recliner so I can maybe see the TV broadcast…
