I’m wondering if I just go with a bigger seat and then drop the irons whether that would put my leg under me. I don’t need the polleys to keep me in the seat anyway.

Don’t bother
I have 3 sitting in my barn. IMO they are VERY narrow, cheaply made, and don’t stand up to work. I rode in real stock saddles when I lived in Australia and they were a different animal. For the same money an Abetta synthetic is a much better choice. Yes the people are nice and helpful, but the product isn’t adequate.
By the way, we measured every horse EXACTLY as we were told, several times, and the saddles never fit right.
sorry to be a downer :(.
As far as the chair seat position from aussie saddles, my husband rides in an aussie and is the most balanced rider with perfect alignment, and swears he doesn’t have to try to keep his leg under him- says it just falls there naturally in that saddle. However, when I ride in his saddle, it makes for a horrible chair seat for me. He thinks that is because it is one seat size too large for me, and if I had a smaller aussie it would put my legs under me in a balanced position… Not sure. I am very tempted to try the Longreach Endurance for trail riding though.
Interesting thread. Last month I bought a Kimberly Synthetic Stock Saddle from them and I love it. http://www.downunderweb.com/store/MI_SAD280.html
It puts my leg right underneath me and I’m not in a chair seat at all. Since it’s synthetic and I only wanted it for a rainy day/back up saddle, I decided to order the Longreach Endurance Saddle.

It came in yesterday and I rode in it today. Couldn’t stand it. Very hard seat and my legs were pushed out in front of me and the lowest point of the saddle was way in the back. I’m returning it and guess I’ll stick with the cheaper synthetic. I guess more expensive isn’t always better. But who knows how long the synthetic will last.

Has anyone tried the Legend or the Darwin model of Down Under saddle? I’m thinking about those two…
I had the Legend saddle and liked it, until the darn thing shrank It is one of their better made saddles and pretty comfortable. Most Aussie saddles do put you in a chair seat but I don’t remember the Legend doing that.
