To All of You Who Own a Mare...

Mine gets MareEase from Uckele. It seems to help. . . She is certainly less dramatic than when I got her!

I think getting older helps as well. Because she isn’t competing right now, I’m sticking with the MareEase. If it becomes an issue, I will reach for the Regumate, it does work wonders!

Progesterone shots every 2 weeks. They are inexpensive and safer than dealing with regulate.

I had my filly on a ration balancer that had soy in it and she became, well, marish I guess would be the word. She went from being her sweet self to being not so sweet, sensitive to grooming, winking and peeing and squirting and rubbing her bottom everywhere, a bit of a grumpy face, etc. One I figured out the soy I took her off of it and within days she was back to her sweet self.

Marble? I think I’ve heard of this in my dim, dark past, but. . . please explain.

It’s funny, but after my mare had her first foal at 11, she became far less moody. Three years later, I would actually call her “sweet” with occasional episodes of hot-headedness, but nothing really dramatic. She’s certainly lost her bitchy little mare-ish symptoms. I dunno - perhaps age and maturity are also a factor.

A marble inserted into the uterus makes some mares’ bodies “think” they are pregnant, and stops the heat cycle. It’s a good technique when it works, but it often doesn’t.

Getting mine spayed next year to make her happier. She’s fine to me when in heat but she’s miserable.[/QUOTE]

A friends TB mare was a complete jerk and freak when she was in season. He could not ride her for that entire week and she was rank to deal with on the ground. Ugh. He had her spayed at the University and she is a complete baby doll year round now.

Hilton Herbs Easy Mare. It has made the world of difference for one of my friend’s mares. She forgot to re-order and after a week of not being on it, once she was back on the supplement, the owner declared that she would be a Hilton Herbs customer for life!
