To Have a New Saddle or Patience? That is the Question

I’ve had a fantastic experience with my bc rep. She told me exactly what used BC’s with what options would work for my horse. I’ve been keeping an eye on the used market while I save up for new.

The 2nd hand Black Country Saddles USA group on Facebook has a lot of used saddles. I’ve been watching for my unicorn, might be worth looking for yours.

Look into Ryder saddles (UK) - see if there is a fitter in your area. A very fair price and great custom work. You will be in love by the time it is done.

wait for a used one. A new custom saddle will lose thousands of value immediately and may still not fit. Ask me how I know…

i just put an order in for a custom BC saddle. the fitter was great (independent) and my horse made it clear which he prefers. since i need a small seat size (16.5) and slightly forward flap and horse needs a hoop tree and front gussets, i went with a custom new one. the chance of me finding that exact saddle could take years and my horse is not happy in his current saddle. i do fear that the new saddle won’t work but i have confidence in my fitter and it’s wool flocked so some adjustments can be made. i also prefer the look of french saddles but i think my horse’s comfort is more important. i did get to choose leather type/color and colored piping so that made me feel a bit better lol.

i’m trying to find a matching used dressage saddles and am having a heck of a time.
