Fred was one of the ones that in a way “belonged to” the COTH forums, or at least belonged on them. I remember being very excited reading about him when I first joined, looking up links to photos of his beautiful offspring, and witnessing, in writing, the great love Gail had for him. Truly a once in a lifetime horse!
Gail, I remember waking up and one of the first things I read on facebook was the post on his page. The first sentence I was thinking “NO! NO NO NO NO NO!!!” I was thinking about the pics you had posted the days previously, how I always enjoyed those posts showing up in my news feed. I am truly sorry for your loss, he was an incredible boy. I don’t think he could have “owned” better people than you and Garnet. 2016 certainly has been a rough year so far
So few horses truly earn the status of “legend” but Fred certainly did. Far too short a life for a legend.
I am so sorry. I will always treasure the memories of the time we visited and met Fred in person.
Sincere condolences on the loss of your beautiful friend. I have admired Fred from afar (Australia), having heard of him through this forum and subsequently visited his Facebook page. A truly exquisite animal, clearly an outstanding sire, but above all a best friend. I hope each day that passes is a little easier. Look after yourself. Xx
I am so sorry to read this news. My sympathy for your loss, Fred.
I was looking at breeding my next horse a few years ago and A Fine Romance was at the top of my (very short) sire list. I found my next horse before I found the right mare, but still harboured faint hope that he would be around when I was ready for the next next horse.
Godspeed to a great horse.
My deepest sympathy - I am also one of those admired Fred from afar.
What a loss. My deepest sympathies to his owners.
His legend will live forever.
Classy horse. Classy owners.
Fred and Mr. Fred, I am sorry for your loss and for the sadness you must feel. At the same time, I am inspired and impressed, but not surprised, at the kind, loving, and responsible way you managed and cared for this wonderful horse right up to the end. What a wonderful life he had!
