Tooth root abscess and tooth removal

We had the CT and have scheduled the extraction—roots are fractured so advised not to remove at farm in case they can’t get it out in one piece. The surgeon will try and plaster the crown together and remove but they will likely need to go through the cheek. Hoping for the best. Horse had some training issues last year but we chalked it up to back pain and she has made huge strides this year, but still some snarly behavior with grooming and blanketing and just general grumpiness.

ETA for anyone who searches this later: extraction was done at the hopsital without complications, and they were able to remove it orally. Horse is much happier already, so I wouldn’t underestimate the pain/irritation this kind of thing causes! Even if it’s not infected. No special after care required, just pain meds—hole was packed with DIM and plug will be removed in a week or so.
