Toronto's Royal Winter Fair Cancelled

It is such sad news :frowning: I also wouldnt have gone if it was held this year, but it was really sad news to hear.

On the plus side, I’m in the video! And one of the ponies in my Avatar is too! Just around the 1:20 mark I’m leaving the ring with him and my husband.

My husband has been showing at the Royal for the past 40 + years. His parents even longer. It will be the first time they havent been there…what crazy times.

It’s truly a disappointment, but it was the right thing to do. Hopefully it will come next year and be better than ever!

As a vendor they make us sign a contract the last day of the previous year. But they have been sooooo great about communicating what 2020 and 2021 would be like.

although I am sad for no Royal they have truly acknowledged there is no other option.i think Toronto as a city has done a great job. I Cant wait for the Royal to see their virtual royal for 2020 and be back for 2021.

The Royal’s leadership team and board are really second to none. I hope they also feel our appreciation during this time.

i know this may all seem sappy but I am a small business and multiple shows have (rightfully) cancelled. The Royal has stepped above and beyond with communication and fees unlike 5 others for vendors and I just want to put it our there. We so truly appreciate it.

Hey @GoodTimes and @kwpn_01 - Canadian Sport Horse Association just posted this on Facebook:

ATTENTION CANADIAN BREEDERS WITH 3-YEAR OLD CUP PROSPECTS!!
Due to the current state of the world surrounding the COVID-19 situation, we are looking to provide an alternative to the Governor General Cup Class that would be typically held at the Royal Winter Fair in November.
In order not to miss out with our 3-Year Olds, we would like to gauge the interest and determine numbers so that we can plan appropriately. At this point, we are looking to hold the Governor General Cup Class only, and strict protocols would be put in place according to the region of the selected venue.
As always, this competition would be open to all registered, Canadian born and bred 3-year olds capable of excelling in the Hunter, Jumper, Dressage or Eventing disciplines. The show format will be identical to prior years. No qualifiers will be held.
If you are interested, please email with your intent and answers to the questions below by STAURDAY, JULY 25th to cancupclasses@gmail.com
1)Would you attend this alternative show with your 3-Year Old?
2)Would you be flexible with a date earlier than November? (Please specify the earliest you would be ready)
3)Would you require stabling overnight prior to the show? (possible locations could be Newmarket/Orangeville/Caledon/Halton)
4)Would you require a stall the day of the show?

Wow. That is not a lot of time to respond, if they want declarations of interest in five days. But props to them for trying to put something together under the circumstances.

Definitely not, but seeing as it’s already nearing the end of Juiy, they’re running out of time to plan.

Looking at the post on the CSHA FB page, they commented also that there is NO possibility of running a separate 4 year old class at the Royal next year, in addition to the regular 3 year olds. They did say they may be able to add 4 year old classes to the qualifiers, but that the Royal can’t accommodate a separate finals for the 4 year olds. Maybe they’d run the finals at a different location.

To be honest and fair, it seems like they are being super nice attempting to accommodate the 2017 babies. However, I’m not sure how interested I’d be in doing a ā€œseparateā€ or ā€œoff-propertyā€ Lieutenant Governor General’s Cup, considering most of the hype and preparation that goes into it revolves around the atmosphere and thrill of the Royal. I’d love to know if it actually does happen though, and good luck to all who choose to participate!

Maybe one day we’ll make our Royal dreams come true in the Jumpers.

Yes! I emailed them yesterday!

It’s nowhere near as exciting as competing at RAWF, but it’s something. I would really like to get my baby off property once or twice this year. And with COVID we had a late start. My trainer has been so busy and only had time to work with her on the ground a handful of times, so I took over again. Sat on her for the first time 3 weeks ago, she’s comfortable going w-t. I’d like my trainer to get on and give me some feedback before we start cantering, but I don’t foresee any problems.

Based on our timeline I’m glad that they’re just planning on holding a GG Cup Class. I’m hopeful that they can hold it in September or early October. I’d like to avoid having to do a full clip.
Some people are claiming there isn’t enough time to get their babies ready. I’m not sure what that’s all about. It is just a line class, much less prep required.
