Trading Aces sold as an equitation horse
For some reason I thought she was sold… and she had a name change again.
Her name is now Fonteyn.

I think this might be her?

I don;t understand the constant name changes. One thing I just don;t “get”

Let’s just take a moment and remember how this thread began with a regular visitor of the H/J forum coming to the eventing forum and opening comments with:

I really can’t remember when I was so offended by such a rude comment on this forum.

You want to jump on ME for talking about how horses regularly lose their names when bought from eventers and Europe? And how when their names get changed the buyers don’t transfer their show records? Hell, sometimes the whole “lost the show records when we changed his name” happens without even the change of discipline or country. Are you denying it happens? OR would you rather talk about the drugs and the grinding the horses into the ground that happens in the lunging areas behind the barns in the H/J world?

Eventers have problems, but at least we are not in denial about it.

I’m glad they seem to be keeping Trading Aces’ name, and I hope he does great things with his new rider!

I dislike the all-too-common practice of a horse losing a year or three of age along with his show record with name changes, but I don’t think that is relevant to Trading Aces’ situation, because I think he’s too well known in the horse world in general for that to even be a possibility. I think trying to pass off a horse that went to WEG as “green” would be a bit much! (And hopefully, the new owners are honest people who wouldn’t do that anyway)

Ah, good to hear she’s still out and about.

Do you know what I find obnoxious? The fact that Marcia Kulak “converted” him in less than a month. OMG really? Between this and Amber Eyes it makes me just want to line everyone up on a bridge and then …

My thought was just that he was probably so well trained that it wasn’t especially hard to get him jumping around a technical eq course in less than a month. More a testament to his previous trainers than anything else.

He’s an Eq horse, not a hunter. They probably won’t change his name. And if he’s damn good as an Eq horse (which if they can sell him at WEF for big bucks, he is) they don’t need to keep options open. Good Eq horses rarely do double duty as hunters.

Good decision, I think. Eventers that don’t cut it often make great Eq horses, as they have conservative jumps and good flat work.

Behind the barns my a$$…it happens front and center. I word for USEF now and then and have seen “feed schedules” flipped over so we can’t see what’s written on it when we enter the temporary stabling at shows.

annnndddd… another COTH Thread goes under!

On a more positive note, I am So happy to hear that Trading Aces has found a new niche and will shine on!!! Love this…

Oh honey, this thread went under with the first comment. No drawn out, dramatic “annnndddd” is necessary.

Oh please, way to trash a whole discipline  He’s not even going to hunters, he’s going to do the EQ, which doesn’t have height/green horse restrictions. At least educate yourself on the rules if you intend to spout crap about other disciplines.
That’s a lot to ask, you know.

Somebody needs to get back on their Regu-mate….:encouragement:

Anyone remember Molly Bliss’ Roan Ranger who went on to a career as an equitation horse?

Yes I can think of 3 very nice event horses (talking solid 2* horses with ADV experience–but not well known) that were sold to be eq horses. They were not going to cut it at a higher level or were not consistent enough to be competitive as a YR event horse but were LOVELY in the EQ and well taken care of…and sold for much more than they would have as an Event horses. One was an OTTB. But big and fancy.

I’m sure TA could have also been sold as a very nice YR event mount but probably the got substantially more selling him as an EQ horse. He is a lovely animal and I think will be happy with that job.

Do you think that maybe a person with an expensive big Eq horse might want to down play the fact he was perviously an upper level eventer because of soundness concerns?

As we see on this thread, people have their opinions, and maybe they fear a person wouldn’t want to spend the money on a horse who’s legs/joints/whatever have been used pretty hard in his previous career.

I’m NOT saying this is or will be the case with Trading Aces, but I could see it being a concern with upper level event horses going to the hunter/eq disiplines.

Just a thought.

I don’t think they care about his past. He was in a top barn and well taken care off. He was bought to do the EQ and I suspect as a first bigger jumper. Not sure he has GP scope but he is quite a good jumper. People will value him for how he performs. He very well may not have been bought with resale in mind and his current owner may keep him to play in the jumpers after they age out of EQ. Who knows.

Yes. I’ve been personally involved with two eventers that went on to be Eq horses (not Adv horses, but a solid one star horse and a horse that had gone prelim but just wasn’t brave enough). They both made the switch readily…and both kept their names

I have a great deal of respect :):yes:for PDs’ selling her to the eq and hunter rings

Looks like Otis Barbotiere might move to the jumper ring, as he’s being tried by a young rider in Palm Beach. EN article.
