We had been out for a couple hours and were headed home on the trail when I saw . . . I kid you not! . . . a man in a spaceman suit with a space bubble on his head.

I’ll bet ya anything you want it was a U-2 pilot out of Beale!

I have a couple buddies who fly those, sure would love to get a ride in one.

some of these stories are hilarious! a man in a space suit, wtf? mylar dragon kite?! what type of horse WOULD think these things are normal???

SO accompanied me on foot, with a samurai sword… :rolleyes: his explanation? “there’s bears in these woods!” okay, he’s right – but i haven’t seen one in nearly six years…

horse was good besides some initial “WTF” moments while SO brandished the samurai sword to cut down the strawberry briar[s] that have overpopulated our trial. great for snacking on in the summer but boy do the thorns hurt!

Hey Jexa, my father flew U-2’s back in the 50’s and 60’s in the Air Force. I never got to fly in one, but have lots of photos, memories, and stories from my dad.

Last fall, I was out on a solo ride on my 4 yo OTTB. There is a path/dirt road that goes through a wildlife refuge nearby, and apparently they were having an educational program. I thought we might be able to pass - my horse is pretty bold, and was a bit concerned but being remarkably good. Unfortunately, their activity was wrapping up, and just as we got about even with it, they started to deflate it. My horse was all business as he did a 180 and did his best to rescue us from Smokey the Bear who was Going To Kill Us!

Tehachapi Mountains

I went to a friend’s house in the Tehachapi Mountains of CA. I am no snow lover, but it was beautiful up there.

Michigan does have beautiful trails. Last September my horse and I did the MTRA Shore to Shore 250 mile ride in 11 days. We left the shore of Lake Michigan riding through Empire, MI --then rode across the state into Oscoda, MI. We never went through or even passed another town. Pretty, pretty ride. And, we had beautiful weather –

Picture? Just think of an elderly lady on a small brown quarter horse --nothing special about either one of us —except we do enjoy each other’s company.

Only down side is, both of us have a kind of “done that” attitude about trail riding now. We still fox hunt every Sunday Oct-April, but when I think about trail riding, I just can’t imagine any place better --there was every terrain one could imagine, rivers to swim, mountains to climb, meadows to gallop through, valleys to enjoy . . . not sure what my horse and I will do this summer. I’m doing a pack trip in Wyo but my horse can’t go --my ma (who was a cowboy in Wyo in her twenties) always told me that lowland horses can’t go to the highlands. So the horse will stay home, and I’ll take lots of pictures to show him.
