Trailer/Hauling Kit (can't find a thread)

A few months ago there was a useful thread about stuff people keep in their trailer. I thought it was on this forum, but can’t find it here or around the farm. I think it started as someone looking for “trailer warming” ideas for a friend.

Google mostly just brings back first aid kits, but I’m looking for other useful stuff so I feel more able to handle breakdowns, flat tires, etc. if we venture out of town this year.

So does anyone have a link to the thread, or shall we start a new one?

This one maybe?

That may have been it, but I’m not sure. Useful either way, thank you!

Jiffy jack
Road flares
Bottle Jack
Fire extinguisher
Impact driver with rechargeable battery and sockets for the lugs on truck and trailer
Reflective safety vest
I have a membership with Trailguard also after I had USRider for years and they left me stranded 3x
I also carry a small first aid kit for people and one for critters and I always bring banamine and ace with me

Also a couple of pairs of queen sized pantyhose. (The large kind is more durable) Believe it or not if you throw a belt you can make one out of the pantyhose to at least get you somewhere safe. You can also carry some extra belts and hoses but if you don’t use them they don’t last forever. Pantyhose are cheap.

That must have been the thread, but I had it intertwined in my brain with a thread on stuff people pack for shows.

Thanks @Annie10. I have a good start on supplies, but I’m making a list. I bought a battery bank that can also be used to air tires and jumpstart a battery.

I have not heard of Trailguard. Was planning on a US Rider membership. I’m in Idaho and out of town travel would mostly be along interstates.

This is what I keep in my truck to use on both my horse trailer and dumping trailer:

Screwdriver with interchangeable heads
Hammer
Duct tape
Bungies, ratchet straps
Rope
Ryobi battery tire inflator
Baling twine
WD40
A cone / safety triangles
Leatherman type tool with knife and pliers
Reflective vest
Headlight
Ball grease
Paper towels in a ziploc to keep clean/dry
Hand sanitizer
Trailer aid
Bottle jack

I had a battery bank thing like that once and it was pretty useless for airing up tires on anything bigger than a Honda and fit real
Wasn’t starting any decent sized truck. Make sure yours is big enough

Not mentioned yet, but I have a large water jug that I keep in my trailers tack room. Nothing more annoying than lugging a full pail of water from wherever the tap is located at a show/clinic when working out of the trailer! Maybe it’s just common sense and that’s why it hasn’t been mentioned.

The other perk to this is if the home farm is on city water and the venue is on well water (or vice versa), I don’t worry if the pony is going to turn up her nose at it. Maybe it’s a stupid non-issue that I’m over thinking, but whatever

Nope I always bring water anytime I have a horse in the trailer

Yes, I need to test out the air capabilities. I know there are some smaller jump batteries that can’t handle a truck. This is a larger one, but I do need to look at the specs more closely though it does claim to be able to jump a pickup, IIRC.

Xan, thanks! I just ordered a toolbox for my truck, so I’ll definitely be putting together a better tool kit and keep it in there.

Water - I have an upright High Country tank that holds 25 gallons. I should be more diligent about keeping water in it for short trips in the summer, but I do make sure it’s full the rare times I haul out of town. I also need to get a new 5 gallon cubie for human drinking water. That would be easier to keep full for emergency horse water for short trips as well.
