Trainers - How do you narrow your clientele?

I don’t want to whittle down - I just can’t accept any new ones - don’t need the money and don’t have the time. Dropping my other job is not an option…

Maybe I will just say I am not accepting anyone new do to time constraints - it’s not personal and it’s the truth.

Tell them you will put them on your waiting list, and if a slot opens up you will call them. That’s what my trainer does.

Sounds like a great plan. Personally speaking, if it’s not broke (your current clients) then don’t fix it.

You might want to consider holding a clinic every six months for the non-clients, depending on your resources. That could be fun… maybe offer your old-time students free or close-to-free audits.

Your friends aren’t giving you good advice even if they’re trying to tell you how to run it like a business. Any business that’s any good knows that the most important thing is customer loyalty. If I feel that a business has done well by me and been fair, where am I going to send my friends when they need the same thing? But if I feel that I’ve been snubbed you can bet I’m going to bad math the business to anyone I can.

It’s bad business advice to tell you to drop your loyal customers just for richer/more advanced ones. That’s not going to do your business any good.

But anyway, I know I’m late. You’ve already figured it out it seems so that’s good.

I just politely said I was full, and offered suggestions for other trainers, or to put them on a waiting list. No hard feelings from anyone.

Putting myself in the potential client shoes, I would respect that and ask you to keep me on a list or something if you ever did have the time. You have lots of good advice, but one thing I would add is that whatever the decision, make sure it’s done with a pure motive in mind. Since it not about money or ambitions to be a BNT yourself, surround yourself with people and horses you enjoy and bring you fulfillment. Sounds like that’s your current client base!

What a lucky, lucky lady you are, Gucci!!! I get more jealous of you by the minute.

no jealousy needed here…we all do the best we can with what we’ve got. You have a whole farm! and horses of your own! Enjoy
