Trakehners Competing At the Olympic Level

I’ve been doing some research, but not having much luck finding anything.
Does anyone know of any Trakehners who have been competing at the Olympic level in recent years?

The only ones I can think of are Abdullah, Larissa and Windfall.
The most recent of these was Windfall at the 2004 Olympics.

Can anyone suggest any others?
It would also be interesting to know whether they were NA bred or European, and what % Trakehner blood they were/are.

wasnt there a russian Trakehner in Rio? I thought he was very very nice

His name was Mister X

If you look at bloodlines, gribaldi is trakehner, so all of his offspring competing are part trakehner, and there are a lot of them.

For rio-Imperio ,dressage, germanbred I think .a fine romance canada part trakener, and I think the russian eventing team in rio had trakehner and part trakeher.

Livius.

There are many more - but not for NA. In both the regular and the para olympics. And you forgot Peron PgE* and of course ALR

This year in dressage as reserve: http://www.pferd-aktuell.de/rio2016/dressur/team-dressur/das-deutsche-dressurteam-in-rio-2016/team-dressur/imperio

Interesting article, Elles, thank you for that. It talks about the decline of the Trakehner by the 1980s in particular in terms of jumping ability and willingness to work, and the importance of the influx of Russian Trak. bloodlines after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

I have a mare here who is by A Fine Romance, her dam was by the GrandPrix jumper Ali Baba, who I remember being advertised as a Polish Warmblood. He was in fact Polish Trakehner and TB.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, much appreciated.

Your welcome, if you go back in his pedigree, there are some very nice and well known stallions in the pedigree. He goes back to Pythagoras. There are some very nice Trakehner in Russia.
If you are looking for a stallion,
We had a beautiful jumping Trakehner in Germany a couple of years ago.

I think he might be still available frozen.
Some of my friends bred to him and really liked the offspring and one of the horses mentioned on his page (Apanahatschi) was ridden by a friend of mine. She was a horse with character but she was extremely successful for many years

This Ali Baba: http://www.horsetelex.nl//horses/pedigree/579745

Don’t flame me because I have a trakehner but they are not favored in europe vs. other registries.

I wish I had one of Abdullah’s foals. Coming in 2nd to that cute little mare at the Olympics, he still looked great.

Of course Abdullah frozen is still available

Horalas (Lith) and Special Memories (USA) both competed at the World Cup 1.60 m level.(Hard to have all the stars line up and go to the Olympics). Both have frozen and Horalas might still be fresh. Hirtentanz (Ger.) s competing I believe at the 1.50m. Tzigane (USA) I think competed up to at least 1.5m (and he is coming back to US I think.)

Yes, that’s the one. He died quite young, with few foals, unfortunately.

1936 was a very good year for the Trakehners but the WWII was devastating and breeding did not really get to that level after the war and other studbooks also started to focus on sport horse breeding.

Do you know Eve Mainwaring? She is the lady that found Big Ben for Ian and she also imported a couple of “Polish Warmbloods”, one also jumped for Ian, the other stood in Alberta and was a 4ft hunter.
I think it is impossible for Traks to compete with the registries. The Wb registries are huge in numbers and can draw from the best from each other while Traks are more of a breed and are limited to their own pool and Tb’s and Arabs. With their history that limited their numbers, it will be very difficult for them to catch up. If they do it will be using Tb stock, much like the Holstiener did, find a couple of brilliant Tb stallions and line bred the results.

My boy Petey is 1/2 Trak. Since he is built like a house, I cannot see any of the Trak in him. Nor does he have any of the temperament quirks that I thought that Traks do.

I am curious – TB’s and Traks and Selle Francais (who will register 1/2 SF’s but do not consider them to be breeding stock (right?) are some of the closed studbooks.

What is the goal of the Trak breeders? The horses seem to have fallen along the wayside in many disciplines without becoming more of a factor in others. Is there any focus that the breeders are adhering to in order to get the breed back in the mainstream?
