A German topic about Trakehner horses with jump ability:

A number of pedigrees of horses mentioned with jumping ability:

I think but I will certainly stand to be corrected that outside blood might be introduced and then xx number of generations later breeding constantly back to full trakehner you would have a full trakehner per the ata. Let’s say 49 years ago capital had been introduced maybe by now you would have a full trak with capital xnumber of generations back. But I might be misunderstanding the rules and if that is correct it takes the long view (breed to casall now and wait 50 years?)

Horses like Capitol and Casall could not and cannot be used.

From what I recall, the Trakehners made a huge mistake maybe thirty-five or so years ago and bred for a certain look for general riding horses instead of performance capability. They got the look but weren’t able to keep up with the other registries focusing more on performance ability. The Traks have suffered for this ever since and are still trying to make up for their lost decades.

I read this years ago, and it might not be accurate, but it’s what I remember.

Elles: I am thinking that if a Casall or Capital showed up in the pedigree far enough back (or was listed as “unknown” at the 5th or 6th generation?) and all other ancestors were trakehner that horse could be registered in the main American Trakehner book–but I will stand to be corrected. I thought if you kept breeding back to full approved trakhener stallions you could eventually “get there”.

omare is correct.

The Trakehner studbook requires at least 5 consequtive generations without any outside blood other than English or Arabian TB, ShA, AA. And they have made exception “for the betterment of the breed”. Biotop, Waitaki, and others, especially from the East, were grandfathered into the stud book although they did not strictly have purebred pedigrees at the time of their acceptance. However, these horses were predominantly Trakehner-bred, and thus this was an easy agreement, obviously based on the fact that these sires were also exceptional sport horses.

Sorry, I really thought the studbook was completely closed except of course for the breeds Maren mentions. That is a real eye-opener!

Thank you to everyone for your information and informative links, much appreciated.
One of my questions was concerning the success of North American bred Trakehners in sport, and in particular in the last twenty years.
How successful would breeders say the NA breeding program has been?
