Truly all-weather footing

No you would be fine. Our winters here go down to -46 at times. The ground gets to stiff to ride on at anything below -10 but then are you going to go out and ride in that weather?

an acquaintance in Mass has a high percentage of rubber footing mixed into the sand of their outdoor, and she said it was useable almost all winter, and was very low maintenance the rest of the year. I asked about rain, since in my experience, rubber footing is mostly seen in indoors where it can’t float away. They do have a kind of perimeter to hold the footing in, and she said it hasn’t been a problem for them.

Me - no thanks. I’m not riding in an indoor once it’s much below freezing either. But your post was strange and made me wonder if you understood that this was about an outdoor arena. Watering an outdoor arena in New England in winter is not necessary. We’ve had 2 days in the last 30 when it hasn’t poured. And today it froze. It would require a really fabulous arena and fabulous footing to make it rideable right now…if anyone even wanted to ride.

I fully understand your post. Where we are you would never consider not watering. Indoor arenas here makes no difference. We would still never consider not watering an indoor-having said that with the footing mentioned above, it requires such little maintenance that regardless of the location of your arena you would have fantastic footing with very little(to no dust), and great drainage on rainy days.
