Trunk Cover for Stanley Trunk
vfx111 - given how many of us are now using the Stanley style trunks…if there are a variety of solutions in the marketplace for a trunk cover, then how awesome we can all help the OP get exposure to the choices available, including the etsy vendor.
The “advertising” rule to which you cite would also apply to the Clothes Horse employee who responded, eh? But to that employee I say hooray - the Clothes Horse products are stellar, and how great that that their employee referenced the OP to to their work as well.
Randee identified herself as being a representative of The Clothes Horse. Mane Alternative did not identify herself as being the owner of that etsy store (which it seems like she is-- her screen name is the etsy store name and they’re both in Utah). You don’t appear to be affiliated with the company so you can endorse the etsy store all day long. But someone who is affiliated with a company can’t pose as a random consumer and endorse the company/it’s products.

I agree it’s a product that really fills a niche and it looks like good quality. That being said, the rules around here are that if you are a company rep, you have to so-identify before endorsing a product (Rule #4.) I am sure Mane Alternative didn’t realize that since she’s new, which is why I suggested she check out the rules.

I ended up with one of these but thanks for the help everyone.

HJEq, their products look wonderful! Thanks for sharing this info, I will put this company on my Wish List, too.

Calling Duck - I’m very, very pleased with it - fits very well and I love that it zips considering the Stanleys aren’t smooth-sided so the slide ons that work well on the vinyl or wood trunks don’t work so well with the Stanley.

That being said, the zipper is metal and kind of small, which I’m so thrilled by, so I might look into getting it replaced by a big plastic one, just easier to slide and grip.

Everyone at my barn thinks it’s super chic and my few fellow Stanley owners all asked for the name. We need to stick together in the sea of vinyl, monogrammed, barn-colour trunks!

HJEq - Glad to hear you are pleased with your cover.
Thanks also for the info about the zipper pull. I am REALLY hard on trunk zippers, coat zippers, half-chap zippers. One would think I would have learned by now not to yank when they get stuck…but noooo…
I have twice had broken zippers replaced on my Beval trunk covers. Both broke due to my lack of patience, not due to bad quality zippers.
So I am sure you could get a new zipper put in. But that costs time, and money.
So, since your zipper is brand new and functions fine, consider just putting a little Gorilla or duct tape on the zipper pull to make the pull slightly larger for you to grip. If you pick a tape color close to your trunk color, the addition to the zipper pull wouldn’t be very noticeable.
Alternatively, run a big paperclip through the end of the zipper pull to give you more grip. I put small snaps on the pulls of my chap zippers to provide better grip.
In any event, I also have a “slide on” cover for one of my older trunks, and it is a PITA, so the zipper lid access is the way to go for me for all of my other trunk covers.

I don’t think there is any rule which prohibits any of us from identifying possible solutions to a posted problem or challenge - like finding a trunk cover for a particular trunk. But there are definitely rules against advertising, and TCH post does seem to violate them.

I bought DD a used trunk and we have rehabbed it so it looks decent, but it is not a standard size, I guess. I wanted to go through the clothes horse as that is who DD"s trainer recommended, but i can’t afford that. So I’ve been looking for one on the cheap and perusing craigslist for a used one. I didn’t realize that smartpak would customize the size, thanks for the info! I will likely order one from them when we have the funds. Good to know!!

I have stanley trunks and had the custom covers made by Janet at the country Saddler. She has a stanley on site so they fit. They were about $200 each and they are stunning.

I just ordered a custom one with a zip-off padded lid from Smartpak for my Husky trunk, which is a slightly sturdier version of the Stanley that one can get at Lowes. You put in the measurements, pick the cover and piping and embroidery colors, and 8-10 weeks later it arrives. With my USEF and SP discount it was under $120.

I have two Stanleys for my horses in the barn and then I have a Husky in my trailer for shows. The barn ones don’t need a cover, but the last show I went to I put my trunk outside my horse’s stall and was slightly sad that it looked so toolbox-y next to the nice show trunks of the other people. I covered it with a towel, which looked super fancy, as you can imagine. I’m excited about my new cover- I’ll let everyone know what I think of it when it gets here!
