Thought you might enjoy Andy’s critique of same horse but with a collar. It is true that this horse does not use any breaching whatsoever nor is it a sliding backhand. It is also a Morgan as I see it at shows and know the horse well.
I didn’t meant to imply to the OP that he should pursue gender neutral, I guess I just inferred that is what he was looking for.
Long sleeve vest— yea, that’s pretty much a “me not paying attention” typo. I meant to say Long Sleeve Jacket. Hmmmm.
As far as painted cart w/ russet harness, GH, gee, that’s what I was always told is more proper. Guess I’ll have to double check that!
I have no wisdom to offer on the turnout question, I just want to say, I LOVE your pony!!
I just heard back from the ADS and they classify my cart as a 2 wheel bench seat phaeton and neck collar would be appropriate for it.
River Clipper - Java says thank you! He thinks he’s pretty hot stuff too
COOL!! Now you know who to ask!
I can’t wait to see how it’s finally turned out when you have all the bits and pieces pulled together.
I’m super excited now (though dreading having to invest in carriage lamps. Why oh why does every colour combo I like have to match brass best?!), haha! As soon as the ankle is healed enough to drive automatic, Ill swap vehicles with one of my parents and go look at paint colours. Going to order shaft hardware and hubcaps as soon as I can figure out how to remove the one existing hubcap and figure out how to measure for new ones. Currently looking online for fabric to redo the seats with (we have limited places to buy fabric locally and it’s all obscenely priced) and have a friend who has foam for me. Gotta strip the fabric and foam off of the existing seats and take the wood backings to the hardware store and have someone cut new ones for me. Then things will REALLY be cracking!
This is where I got my upholstery vinyl- they have outdoor marine grade vinyl in every color under the sun in addition to some with special textures and stain resistant features. This vinyl is SO MUCH nicer than what they sell at Jo-anns!

This was a lead I was going to offer you for discount cloth uppholstery fabrics- you have to check in frequently to catch the specials- but today when I went to the site it wasn’t working- like they are doing an upgrade- hopefully they will be up and running again soon.

Thanks!
The people that work at the ADS are not turnout experts necessarily. Just because someone gave you that advice does not mean it is correct. I have seen Phaetons that looked like that but from where the traces attach I would disagree on the neck collar.

I know I need to drop the singletree, and that is one of the first things my trainer will help me address when she returns in the spring.
and the folks at ADS may not be the experts, but they are the folks who make the rules. I can take the email with me to competition and use it in much the same way that I use the email from Dressage Canada in regards to my pony’s riding bit (it’s a stainless bit with copper lozenge, which up until recently was an illegal mouthpiece, but thanks to rule changes it is now allowed to have two metals in the mouthpiece as long as the shape is that of a legal bit)

It would not be against the rules it just may not be proper. a judge may or may not know what is proper and if you were marked down for that reason you wouldn’t pull out your paper and say look what aDS told me LOL nor would you likely be told why you were marked down. I will again mention about a critique With carriage driving essentials certain types of upholstery maybe more proper and certain colors maybe more proper depending on what era that was built
The day I emailed ADS (a couple weeks ago) I also emailed the CAA and asked them the same thing I asked ADS about what my cart would be classified as so that I can refinish it correctly. They put me in touch with the librarian at the Carriage Museum of America and she is helping me put together a correct turnout for the vehicle. She also says that the cart would be classified as a Phaeton Cart and should have the swingletree dropped and paired with a full collar harness. I’m looking forward to hearing what she has to say about correctly turning it out.
I had sent an email to Carriage Driving Essentials but never heard back. Depending on what I hear from the lady that the CAA connected me with I may try contacting CDE again.
