Turnout Sheets with Tail Cord Vs Leg Straps - Just as Safe?

Wow, glad he’s ok. I’d be livid if someone changed my blanket arrangement without consulting me.

Every time I have seen a leg strap used as a tail cord it was too long and too stretchy and seemed like an accident looking for a place to happen. All my tail cords are flat nylon straps. I had a Rambo bungee tail cord for a while (until the plastic snap broke in the cold) - the elastic is much stronger than any leg strap elastic.

Thanks; yes, I was pretty upset. I knew that it had been done out of a sincere belief that leg straps weren’t safe, but I’d made it abundantly clear that they were my preference, and - given my horse’s previous accident with the tail strap - didn’t think my wishes would be ignored. I might not have been so forgiving if he’d been physically hurt. Again, just very, very grateful he’s ok, aside from being really touch/spooky about his cooler/exercise sheet moving around on him too much. And the person who changed his straps I believe has truly accepted that leg straps aren’t dangerous, if they’re adjusted correctly, and will leave his leg straps alone.

Yep, I can see that… leg straps are supposed to give and have stretch. The tail cord, not so much. So that might have contributed to the instability of my horse’s blanket, and its ability to flip up over his back.
