It’s FINALLY ! I haven’t been this excited for rain in a while.
Hope it rains all afternoon.

Yesssss!!
Of course, my fear is that these are very localized little cloudbursts; they’ll dump a bunch of rain for five or ten minutes then move on – not nearly enough rain to penetrate the ground or soak in. I am hopeful that if we get daily thunderstorms for a few days in a row, it might soften up the footing a bit (and fill the wells?)
Now the extended forecast is saying T-storms during the day on Sunday (when my student is competing), but I have been misled so many times now that I remain dubious about that forecast.
@Dr_Doolittle, I had to drive down near your neck of the woods today and WOW! I thought we had it bad here but it looks much worse there, especially all the yellowing trees.
Today we were hit by a narrow band of SW-to-NE storms that produced torrential rain and some hail. Weather Underground currently shows zero rainfall for my zip code because the nearest weather station is in Sterling, VA, but there are 2” in my rain gauge! I do wonder where it all goes. When the ground is so hard it seems like it mostly just runs off, but the culvert in the middle of my farm is empty. I hope the grass and trees had a good drink.
Since it rained the whole week after the June Seneca HT, I guess Seneca needs to be one week later, ha. How did you find the footing?
Oy, ugh - yes! The grass is literally yellow everywhere - streams dried up, dead leaves dropping off the trees
I saw that line of storms come through! Apparently it actually dropped some rain on Upperville, but I’m sure it’ll be all gone and evaporated by the time I go out tomorrow. It was really the proverbial drop in the bucket.
I was pleasantly amazed by the footing at Seneca! They have such good turf and thick grass, and apparently they did get some rain the previous week – plus they aggravated. Footing was remarkably good!
This too shall pass (PLEASE!!!) Mother Nature must give us a break at some point.
Yes, I thought so as well! Carolyn lets them borrow the Loch Moy aggravator, thank goodness, and I think the thick turf does make a huge difference.
There’s a lot of rain in the forecast this next week so I hope some makes it to you!
This was from a farm between Upperville and the show grounds. We got wind, a light show, and the temperature dropped 20°. Apparently all the rain hit a mile west of us! Not a drop going back to Marshall, either. It was 100° by the time I got home.
Nooooooo!!!
Well, Summit Point got rain. About 10 minutes of light rain before 9AM, and then a steady light rain from about 5:30 to 8:30 PM, with more expected after 9 PM.
I hope Berryville got a similar amount.
It rained pretty hard – and hailed! in Upperville for about 30 minutes at around 5:00 – my mare had just finished an acupuncture/chiropractic appointment (with the wonderful Dr. Dill) and luckily, my horse was still in her stall – I had to calm and cuddle her because the rain and hail were blowing sideways right in the stall window - but luckily it stopped before I turned her out.
Bring it!!!
Edited for comprehension GEEEZ Stupid talk to text/post…
Well, it looks like this hurricane is weakening, and will spare the East Coast – unfortunately!
This is on the entry status page for Old Tavern: “The good news is that we have had plenty of rain at Great Meadow.” Huzzah!!! Up in my area we got around 5" in the past week! It’s certainly feast or famine this year. It’s amazing how quickly the grass went from yellow/crispy to green/lush.
I know, we got a good bit in Upperville (about 20 minutes from Great Meadow), of course our ring is already dried out again.
I’m planning to do the schooling day there after the HT - so fingers crossed that we get more between now and then! But yes, it was definitely a refreshing “drink“ and the grass did rebound a bit.
What day is the schooling day? Their website is a bit confusing as it still seems to have a lot of last year’s info.
I believe it’s Tuesday, October 3.
