UH OH! Are we prego? ---AHEM, YES!!!!

Ok – I have a brand of pool strips I got from WalMart called “Aqua Check.”

They have readings for Ca+ at 250, 500 & 1000.

Readings for pH run 6.2, 6.8, 7.2, 7.8 & 8.4.

In both these categories they suffice just fine.

I don’t understand why you are having such issues with your testing strips…[/QUOTE]

Walmart was sold out of their pool strips. I got mine from Home Depot, and they’re 6way strips from Pool Time. They have Ca+ of 0, 100, 250, and 1000, then they have pH of 6.8, 7.2, 7.8, and 8.4.

Just did her milk test at evening feeding. She’s showing up at what looks like a 7.2 pH! Ca+ indicator is definitely at least 250 or more, but there’s no 500 indicator. Milk is thicker, more viscous, and very cloudy/no transparency. Are we Thundercats go finally? I’m thinking I’m going to put sheets on the air mattress down at the barn…

Have you been checking her daily? You are definitely headed in the right direction but not there yet but if that was a major drop from this morning or last night that gets my attention a bit more. If this was a gradual thing I would sleep in the bed in the house.

Dropped from somewhere between 7.8 and 8.4 down to 7.2. It was definitely above 7.8 last night on the color indicator, but not quite as high as 8.4.

It could still be a few days away but with no history since she is a maiden you have to watch a little closer. I would probably be in my intermediate stage right now where I sleep in the house but set the alarm to peek at the camera every couple of hours. Or have my Mom babysit on the west coast on Marestare until she goes to bed at midnight (3am my time) You are getting there!

Ah yes, you are making progress now!! We have one that drops from 8.0 to 7.2 to 6.2 and foals that night (24hr readings) - and a few that creep down. But regardless, you are definitely now getting closER… thank goodness you have saved your sleep until this point! I don’t start watching the cameras until 6.4ph or so, but they also have BreederAlert pagers on them after 6.8… but you never know, it’s not foolproof but surely telling you that you can start paying close attention soon! Most of ours usually have 3-6 days at this point still.

sigh No baby yet. She’s now below 7 on pH. I am exhausted because of course every time she moved around or made any noise, I was awake and peeking out of the tent at her. She rolled around some last night, but no dice. Spending the night out there is for the birds, and I miss my fiance’s bulky warmth to keep me warm! I need a heavier blanket tonight. Haha, how do you guys do this on purpose? Would hook up the camera again, but the darn laptop is having problems, plus the range of our router to the barn is spotty sometimes.

You are in the home stretch. It shouldn’t be more than a few days now I wouldn’t think. Good luck! Do you have anybody to help you?

Thinking of you often  I am sure it won’t be long, now!

At this stage what I do is call the vet to let them know we are not looking far off and get their after hours number, and plug it into the mobile, and I make sure the mobile is fully charged and by me at all times.

If she looks like the foal is misrepresented, the best bet is to get her up on her feet and gently walking, call the vet immediately. Getting her up can help reposition the foal and slow the process down hopefully enough for the vet to get there ::slight_smile:

Hold onto your hats, folks, it’s going to be a bumpy night! Just did a milk test with new pH strips. I THINK she’s at a 6.2 pH, but it might be lower. The color is between 6.0 and 6.4. It’s DEFINITELY below 6.4, much closer to 6.0, but not perfectly the same shade as the indicator for 6.0. Also, what I thought was milk before? Nothing compared to this. Tonight we have what looks like cow’s milk, whereas what I had before was creamy, ivory-ish. Today is straight up white-ish and THICK. Also, tonight we have sweetness. Boy was she pissed when I touched her down there, and she is TIGHT and extremely bagged. Definitely sleeping at the barn, and am about to call the vet’s after hours number.

(((HUGS)))) so exciting!!

Sounds very promising! Especially when they drop quickly like that, they don’t usually hold on long! I usually find that they go the next night after hitting 6.2 in a rapid case like that. Can’t wait to hear an update!!

Don’t know if I would call the vet unless he asked for a head’s up but you are definitely getting there. Good luck!

Update?

Hey, a friend of mine got 7 mares settled on the same AI collection. So they will all be due at once. THAT’s nuts.

That’s nuts in many ways not just the all due at once part.

Ditto on Laurie!

That is something I never would have attempted of my own free-will  But I guess that is one way to get it all over with at once.

(I just sent the OP a text message asking for an update - so if I hear back I’ll post if she hasn’t by then)

where’s the baby???

Foal isn’t here yet - mare is being NICE and is in labor at 9am in the morning.

Why can’t those of us who PLAN breedings get so lucky lol

Black filly with white markings - at least that what was text to me

Congratulations!!! So relieved that all went well!!!
