Your post gave me a good laugh! I think what Sabine was trying to say is there is no room on TOB for progression in this art we all love. Styles of horses change, discoveries are being made, life in the dressage world is not stuck in the ODG’s word. I have great respect for the ODG’s as I’m sure Sabine does too, it is just another world with different, and sometimes better, ability of the horse and rider. If you are always a slave to your opinions, you will never be flexible in your training. If you free yourself for the ODG’s every now and again, you might find something on your own that works the best for you and your horse.

We do have those kind of folks on the board…Gigi Nutter? She is constantly paying her respects to the odg’s but always reminds us to play/experiment/quit reading so much and go out and ride. And she’s no slouch!

For some of mere mortal riders, the odg’s are a good place to start…then maybe we can start thinking outside the box. But thinking outside of the box still gives you the perogative to say yes or no to different or more modern methods.

From what I understand, you get kicked out over there if you disagree and appear to be more tuned-in to other styles of riding. I think Gigi is a great gauge to go by. Some people read and think about it so much it takes away the freshness of training. It has to be this or it has to be that? Poll high this, poll not high that, classical this, classical that. That is a strait jacket way of thinking!!

why dont you become a member and find out what the deal is once the board is back up and running???

people on UBDD get kicked out for being rude and for posting nasty personal commetns about other posters, or by repeatedly trying to create new user names once they have been kicked out.

there is a reason why so many of us love UDBB - and it isnt becuase we cant express our opinion

You know what, I agree with you and because I own a bit of a “special case” of a horse right now…I am REALLY learning to be more open minded. It’s just than darn “R” word that really gets people heated.

As far as people getting kicked out because of “other styles of riding”…I honestly don’t get that impression of the UDBB. I read that all the time over here and it’s almost like it’s been said so many times, it’s just considered fact now. I wouldn’t dare speak for Mark, but I just don’t see that being the case. We even have a ‘resident cowboy’, Dave Walker who contributes an awful lot to the dressage discussions. It really is all in the tone you use. Which is why this lovefest for the UDBB is borderline sweet and sickening, but truely genuine…it’s safe there.

there is plenty of room for discussion of all types of

training on udbb. the problem arises when people get RUDE about it-that’s what gets them banned.

lately we have been fortunate to hear from RATIONAL pro-rollkur people who can discuss training without being insulting. although i disagree with them, it is a breath of fresh air. (“you all just hate anky” is not a rational argument. careful explanation of why it works(in the opinion of the poster) is.)

but honestly, the topic has been done to death on both boards and i doubt if anyone has changed his or her opinion!

as far as comparing the two boards-i think it is rude for anyone to come here from udbb to be critical of coth. it is their board and the mods are being tolerant, why the insults. udbb and coth are just like any other boards in that there will be posters and posts you don’t like from time to time; but the majority of what is posted is useful and/or fun. usually if you have a problem or a question on either board-there is someone out there who has the answer. or at least can help you point yourself in the right direction.

i must say that since udbb has been down i have gotten quite a lot done around here! but i miss you guys! and the nyt is full of juicy discussion topics today…
