Update: Old dog had tooth extraction; doing well

My 19 year old rat terrier had all but 4 of his teeth out one year ago. I took him to the vet with the best anaesthesia set-up. She was very hesitant to do it (because of his age) but I could not let him be in pain, it was either that or euthanasia. He’s doing fine now. I cook for him, and he is feisty as ever.

Any updates? I’m hopeful that the silence means that all went well and you are just laying low taking care of the pup!
Jingles!

Yes, Cody is doing very well.
Vet said it was a difficult extraction, as the root was very deteriorated and she had to pick it all out.
But she was happy that she had a nice flap of gum to suture over the hole.

He is home on antibiotics and Tramadol.
I slept the first two nights on the couch with him as I didn’t want him to go up the stairs.

Today he is starting to act pretty normal.
However, when he first gets his Tramadol, I think he gets confused because he lays there and growls at nothing.

I give this vet two paws up. She really has impressed me.

Having once taken tramadol myself for a serious kidney infection (apparently, it’s Germany’s version of most commonly prescribed narcotic painkillers), I wouldn’t be terribly concerned about his reaction to it. I was pretty much the same way at that point.

Glad your buddy is doing better :c).

I’m so pleased to hear he came through with flying colors. Having gone through infected tooth extractions with a couple of my very senior dogs, I know only too well how trying it can be waiting for the outcome.

I’m also glad to hear he’s doing well! I hope the rest of his recovery is quick and uneventful.

I’m so glad for him, and for you. Hope he’s back to normal quickly, and so glad everything went well.
