UPDATE post 23 Armchair vets - weird hoof xray?

Not an expert but it looks like a fracture for me too

Well I talked to the vet!

According to them (the latest vet, took the October rads) this is not a fracture but a conformation variation of the digital cushion. Apparently it can be segmented like this, and does not affect soundness. If it was a fracture, it would typically present with 4/5 or 5/5 lameness. This horse was never that lame, 3/5 at most and only for a few days. He also did not block out sound at the hoof, but only at the suspensory.

It’s a very interesting presentation that the vet says scares a lot of people (including new vets) but is present in a good chunk of the equine population. So that’s delightful and also par for the course with this horse . I’m told to continue rehab as we had been, as long as the horse doesn’t come up lame again.
