Updated: What seems like a crappy situation. Gimme opinions.

Just got caught up on this and really stuck on something…

Trainer billed you for coaching another rider on your ful lease JUMPER in a HACK during the week to prep him for you???

HUH? That’s helpful to OP because…???

Wanna bet trainer billed the other rider for “Show Day Coaching/Lesson” as well as OP for “Prep”??? Very common scam to bill one client for using the horse and also bill the owner for ‘pro services’ and exsists because of clients not communicating with each other so the double billing remains unknown to those footing the bills.

Once upon a time when head trainer was away on show circuit, assistant trainer gave another client a lesson on my good show Hunter. A week later, had lunch with same client who mentioned how much she appreciated using my horse in her lesson on the 12th and picked up the tab for lunch and wine. I was a little surprised but said nothing-it was fine she got the ride ability wise but I like to be asked about such things. Light hack is fine and we all did that when another client couldn’t get out but it was a light hack for excercise only and not billed to the owner. Nothing more unless owner specifically agreed. Figured I’d discuss it with head trainer when she returned and see what’s on my bill.

Soooo…when that months itemized bill comes in the mail? I have a $50 charge for a “Pro Jump School” on the 12th. Check with the other gal and she got billed $60 for a 1hr private on the 12th. NICE. Assistant trainer was ex assistant trainer after head trainer got home and reviewed the billing finding numerous similar double billing-which was refunded to all affected.

Boy, I think we need to find a really big box of Crayolas for OP to give to trainer as a parting gift in return for all trainer has done for OP and her fellow clients who are kept like mushrooms.

I wish we could have push notifications for threads like these.
Purely commenting so that I at least have the little green arrow thingy so I remember that I commented on this thread and should check it…

Best of luck OP! You have much more patience than me!

I knew of a trainer that would charge owners for full training and then charge the lesson students who did the training for the lessons.

I think that one is pretty common… I’ve seen it a few times.

One BO did this… without trainers knowledge.
Classic.

We had an excellent variation on this at a barn I boarded at years ago. Horse owner was at college so absentee. Horse was “half leased” (3 days/week) to 3 different riders. Horse owner was also charged for “full training” which was 5 pro rides per week (which to my knowledge never actually happened). Trainer would also sometimes use the horse in lessons. One half leasor who had a 9 to 5 job and was NEVER out during the day randomly came out once mid-day and busted open the scheme. Poor horse was going around like a carousel and the owner was paying for the privilege!

I am just waiting to hear what the trainer has to say. If anything.

Ok, I fold! Someone link me to this crayola trainer thread…

It’s in favorites if you want to do a quick search. Well worth the effort.

Come back, OP!

I don’t know about you guys, but for all my trainer’s faults (he has very few, but then again he MIGHT tell you that himself ), this thread is making me SO GRATEFUL for him. And my super upright barn manager.

Cannot wait to hear how this ends!

Every time someone brings up the Crayola thread, I get depressed. Can we really just NOT?

Coming out of my cave to reminisce fondly about my working student days and getting charged to hold my own horse for the vet and farrier. Oh! And day fees for caring for own horse at shows. The more to work off, my dear, and all that.

Good times.

Having read all 40 pages yesterday… I am assuming because there was no closure.

Also, how have I never scrolled down far enough to read the “favorites” board? I just finished reading “The Florida Horse Saga”, “Child in my pasture”, and the Crayola Thread. Definitely making the time go by faster at work.

Come back, OP!
I do hope the OP is doing OK and that the conversation with their trainer ended however they hoped it would.

OP where art thou!!!

I guess it’s off to the crayola thread for me in the meantime

I (almost) wish I could remember the lawyerly way trainer explained those charges and how it made enough sense that I shut up. CANNOT believe she didn’t charge me for braiding, too.
