Updated: What seems like a crappy situation. Gimme opinions.

Dammit…

Bump. Ba dum bump. Anything?

Oh no… I hate when I get so many pages in without a conclusion…

This is why I should just stop reading threads started by alters/new people…

What if BO went ape shit and now she’s locked in the tack room and only allowed to come out to clean stalls while the BO oversees with her iron fist?

I’m gonna go with that.

Oh dear. :frowning: Will there be a COTH rescue attempt? :o

I was thinking more that she presented the Trainer with a written demand for a refund of the egregious over-charges, which I assume amount to thousands upon thousands of dollars. Then, seized the lease horse that she is so fond of as a hostage against payment of said overcharges, and bolted with it in the middle of the night. Since then the Trainer agreed to give over the papers and make OP the owner of beloved lease horse, instead of paying up the refund. OP and lease horse live happily ever after, far far away, and go to lots of horse shows and win ribbons and trophies. Until eventually the ex-lease horse retires on green pastures.

I’m going with that.

Or she’s been sold into indentured servitude as a WS to a trainer thousands of miles away where she will be forced to clean 200 stalls a day, ride psycho horses, live in a tent, and eat cold canned chile for dinner.

Oh no! Have no fear OP! We’re coming for you! I’ll get the gofundme started.

What if none of this ever happened? Maybe the OP made it all up and fooled everyone…

Muhahahahaha

Hi everyone,

A bit (a lot?) belated, but as promised I’m coming back to update this thread.

Since that the show where I was injured, I didn’t show again and quietly let the lease run out because I moved 2 months later to a different state. In the remainder of the lease, trainer went with a full court press to get me to do a few more away shows. I told her I didn’t have the money. She kept asking if I would just lesson at week-long show, and do the ticketed warms up, to keep costs down (ummm, hello, that’s still very, very expensive). Then she found someone else who would have been willing to split the horse and costs with me, but that rider is at my level (so…I’d have to not show classes I’d normally show so she can, and then, who knows what double dipping happens with costs). I had to say no like 4 times.

After I moved, she wanted me to take lease horse with me, but wanted a much higher fee. I said no without even considering it. Then, for months she sent me videos of horses for sale, all of whom were out of my price range anyway (and two are in Europe, so add import costs). One horse is owned by another client and she repeatedly contacted me to ask if I wanted to try that horse. I’m 4 states away and settled in, so I’m not sure why she thought I’d buy under her auspices and train with her. After months of saying no, she got the point. It honestly wasn’t worth a big blow up because I’m still friends with a bunch of folks from that barn, including someone who works for trainer. The outcome was the same regardless.

I’m now at a new barn, and happy. Learned my lesson!!

The reason would be commission

OMG, thank you for coming back! So did you never actually sit down with her to go over the fees and ask for a refund? Did you at least the check for the braiding that she promised?

I did ask for a refund for the training rides—she said no. Re: braiding, the horse got braided on two days. The first day, the classes were rained out and he didn’t show with junior #1 (first person trainer was going to have show him). The second day he showed with junior #2 who won the prize money. After I protested the braiding, junior #1’s mother wrote me a check. But I ate the “unused” braiding for the first day. I was so disgusted by trainer and the whole situation that I didn’t have the energy to chase down junior #1 and get her to pay for braiding on a horse she didn’t ride, even though she clearly should have.

What an unethical trainer. Glad you are away from there and hope new horsey situation is honest and fun.

I was thinking about this situation not all that long ago and wondered what happened. Glad the situation resolved itself in a sense by you moving out of state! The trainer sounds like a real piece of work to keep sending you horses and whatnot. Thank you for letting us know you are indeed alive and the trainer didn’t tranq you and throw you in the manure spreader

Well, sometimes you have to cut your losses. Glad you are aware from this trainer. She sounds like a piece of work.

I’m happy to hear you’re in a better place now.

I just re-read the thread and still can’t wrap my head around how it appears that you you a)paid all the show expenses and b)someone else (junior or trainer) kept all the prize money.

In the end, you did what was right for you. So my own closure is going to be that the painful lessons learned will help you and those closest to you stay out of such clutches in the future. All the best with your future horsey life, OP!

Thanks for the closure…but we need our crayolas back please.
