I can never remember that name of the operation, thanks for posting that. Yes, when meds and a catheter do not work for months, the vet will cut off the penis and the narrowing part of the urethra in order to help stones and sand to pass through. It worked. And the tomcat was still as feisty for the next 14 plus years of his life, and could even still spray.
I did not want to hijack this thread, so I’m butting out now but I do want to mention lepto. I had a dog who started having trouble urinating and who had blood in his urine. After tests and treatment and a catheter unfortunately it turned out to be lepto and my dog died at the age of 7 yrs. So OP, check for lepto. He had been vaccinated.
