US Team Announced for Tokyo

Thanks so much! Is that Deniro z after Buck?

Yes, Liz jogs him after Buck.

Thank you. I don’t see that he’s off, I think I need more coffee!

Someone jogged in boots?

I mean, that’s a bit ridiculous. It’s also ridiculous they passed Deniro.

If they want to be competitive on the world stage they should be a lot more critical of themselves before they get on that plane.

Well, they didn’t put him on the plane.

They have now announced no spectators and a state of emergency in Japan.

:joy: yeah, I just mean they should have spun them at their little show.

Well, even I could see he looked off, (thanks for the video, I even joined Major league eventing and couldn’t find it!) I don’t have a great eye. Such a darn shame. Hopefully, the 4 that get on the plane will be and stay sound.

This must be terrifying for the Japanese people. Talk about putting an entire nation between a rock and a hard place. Not that they were ever paragons of virtue in my eyes, but I have absolutely no respect left for the IOC after how they handled this for athletes and their hosts. I’d be one of the first to understand financial pressure, but this is not acceptable.

I couldn’t see it on my phone, but yeah…he was off. He should have been spun.

and for the athletes … representing one’s country in front of the cheering crowds, the opening and closing ceremonies, the comraderie, etc. are such an important part of the Olympic experience.
competing at the Olympics in a bubble with no spectators, must feel artificial.

I wonder how many “volunteers” and medical professionals will back out for their own safety and that of their family and community.

Not sure if this has been shared, but interesting!

So they will be tested daily for Covid, and it’s like the NBA bubble where they are hotel and venue only and an app on their phone to follow their location.

The Horse and Hound editor talked about this on their Podcast too. There is no inter mingling of nations too, I believe. Doesn’t exactly sounds like the best time.

I saw that Rowan Willis withdrew Blue Movie from the traveling reserve spot for Australia’s SJ team. I adore that horse and I can definitely understand why that decision would be made. Not eventing related, but relevant to the traveling reserve challenges discussion.

Very admirable, especially with no fans and no big opening ceremony. Why bother.

H&H is sending Pippa Roome/Kyle for sure! She’s doin daily podcasts as well!

Ugh. What a mess. I feel bad for the athletes, who won’t be able to perform in front of energetic audiences, can’t explore the city, can’t meet and hang out with athletes from other countries, can’t even leave their rooms basically it sounds like, and that this may be their one and only Olympic experience. Also feel for Tokyo, who put so much time and money into building all of the infrastructure and planning and won’t get to show off their city to fans. And on top of trying to host an olympics they are dealing with covid.

Doesn’t seem like much fun for anyone. Here’s a blog by one of the photographers.
