USA team eliminated in Paris?

Do you mean near A? This was how it was for eventing dressage.

Very unfortunate.

I watched some of this morning. The horses were entering and exiting through the same gate. Sometimes they were passing through at the same time. According to the commentators, they specifically had them entering and leaving through different gates so that they did not have this bottleneck during eventing dressage.

Marcus’s Jane was very upset to not leave the arena with the departing horse and spun around & reared several times. Marcus did a great job settling her down and got to the canter h/p before he got rung out. If I remember correctly he was on a 73ish percent when the bell was rung.

Oof.

I’m confused, were they entering and exiting through the same gate or no?

What a bummer to be having a nice test after that and then get rung out. Still, that’s a pretty good size mark, she must have gotten herself decently to have that.

What I think is a shame is that it’s only visible because of the markings - if the same thing happened to an all-black horse it likely wouldn’t have been seen by the judge. Maybe would have been spotted at any inspection leaving the ring, but maybe not.

Sad but true.

And doubly unfortunate as if if was a horse without socks, may have never been seen. I know at least one of the stewards at the games (have seen her doing some of the bit checks on the feed) and not sure with how minor the blood looked on the screen, not sure she would have even seen it at bit check.

While we are all for the stop of the abuse of horses, these minor nicks that did not affect the soundness of the horse and not a result of abuse, the blood rule could use some tweaking.

Thanks - I edited. Skipped half my thoughts.

They were entering and exiting through the same gate at eventing dressage as well. The commentators you heard were incorrect

ETA the only difference in entrance/exit was that they were coming from either side of the inspection tent, but they both (entering and exiting horses) had to go through the same 14’-ish gate, per my photos above.

Yes, I think the timing was just better managed for eventing dressage. I never saw two horses have to pass each other the way they did today.

thank you for this explanation!

That makes sense. Timing in eventing SJ was bad as well - a few horses passing very close (which wasn’t an issue for them because eventers).

Fair enough. I was out of town over the weekend and did not see any of the eventing dressage. I was just going off what Lucinda said this morning during the commentary.

I still think even with one gate it could have been managed better. As in, if the two horses are going to cross through at the same time - hold the exiting horse until the entering horse is well past the gate. Exiting horse is done for the day - no need to worry about screwing up that horse rather than the entering horse. My horse could get a little jumpy on the ramp down into the Rolex at KHP - so if I was headed out and someone was on their way down - I’d hold away from the bottom until the entering horse was well past so as to not upset someone on the way in for a test.

Totally agree. I did see a few horses held but clearly not everyone.

I didn’t get the sense that the gate people had horse experience. A few of them almost got flattened during the victory gallops because they were trying to get riders to exit instead of going one more lap. They didn’t realize they weren’t going to win that battle

ETA terrible timing: https://www.instagram.com/stories/c_b_dressage/3423495511810883182

I think a lot of people who work at the Olympics are volunteers, aren’t they? So there might be people working at the event who have never even seen a horse in person before.

Yes lots of volunteers, but I think if you’re working in a capacity that close to the horses you need to have SOME kind of experience. It cost us the opportunity at a medal. Hopefully the powers that be took notice.

Yikes. Maybe if they didn’t use a 40 blade to clip the white there would’ve been more protection from a knick of the shoe :woman_shrugging:t3:

They just showed the test on broadcast TV on the E Network, but they did not show anything before the horse started down centerline. The commentators did describe her as “frisky” before she made her entrance.

Does anyone know if they showed her bouncing around on the live stream? I have not gone back to look for it yet on the Peacock app.

Yes, absolutely. She came in, caught sight of the crowd/atmosphere and was all, “Oh, hell to the no. I’m gonna follow this fella here right back out, tyvm!” There was then some dramatic spin-leaping before she decided that maybe ‘dad’ was worth listening to and she wasn’t actually going to die of exposure to the crowd. It was really unfortunate, but imo not caused by 2 horses passing close by. They do that all the time. Have we not all passed another rider close enough to high five and have a little chat on the way in/out of the show ring?

Editing to say if you can wrangle your way into CBC Gem (assuming you’re American so may not be able to easily  ) you should be able to find the live stream and muck about with the cursor until you find it. As of now, it’s still marked as “live” but is actually a full replay of all 3 groups.
