There have been some really good ideas in this thread. I’d like to encourage everyone to email amateurtaskforce@usef.org with their thoughts. I’m not entirely sure if/how they will weigh opinions of non-USEF members, but it could be good to put ideas into their heads anyway, right?
For sure. I think that’s the elegance of a limit type category based on score for both horse and rider. There’s 4 main scenarios: green rider / green horse (could enter limit horse or rider), experienced rider / green horse (enter the limit horse), green rider / experienced horse (enter limit rider), experienced horse / experienced rider (enters open).
I think if the score break point was right (say, 65%?) you’d likely weed out pros, very experienced ammy, and fancy horses, and it wouldn’t penalize people for winning small classes with a low score.
There is another USEF webinar on the amateur rule change proposal next week on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:30 PM Eastern.
They also sent out a survey this week to USEF members, with a request to complete the survey by this Thursday, I believe. So check your email if you did not see it.
I submitted a question/comment.
“Are you saying that
A rider who is paid to groom for the barn owner, and rides the barn owner’s horses, can compete as an amateur
BUT
A rider who is paid to keep the barn owner’s books, and rides the barn owner’s horse can NOT compete as an amateur?
If so, then I disapprove of the proposed change.”
If you are correct, I also disapprove of the proposed change. Let us know if you receive a reply.
