USEF Proposed rule changes? cross posted

Of course you do. We all do. I guess I wasn’t terribly clear. I don’t begrudge anyone who shows, regardless of which division you show in. I think the idea of having rider divisions rather than Pro/Am would be much more fair.

Thanks - I didn’t know that some regions were already doing this. I haven’t shown at a recognized show in over a year and it was in Aiken SC. We didn’t have to do temps at that show, but we were actually a haul-in, so I don’t know how those would be managed? In California, do they allow haul-ins?

I don’t drive or compete FEI so I’m a bit out of that circle. I’m guessing that with the carriage and all the harnesses/equipment needed that you would stable at the show vs hauling in ?
Now that I understand where this is coming from -VS in Cali - it seems like a much more reasonable ask for people. I would comply - but the app seems like the way to roll.

Went to a 400 horse entry eventing show here in Aiken SC to watch - it had FEI levels running - but don’t recall anything in the program about taking temps.

Temp logs are a requirement due to the EHV-1 outbreak that shut down CA USEF licensed shows in 2022 and the VS outbreak that could have done the same this summer. These additional steps - temp logs, horse inspections prior to unload, health certs 2-5 days prior to start of the show (this has now been returned to normal requirements) - are all specific to CA and the surrounding states if the surrounding states allow CA horses to compete. It’s posted on the USEF website for all to read.

These requirements are for all horses competing or entered as non-compete.
Other disciplines such as rodeo are following the similar guidelines. This summer, we had the same health cert requirements for our rodeo horse as our dressage horses. A large CA rodeo was canceled due to the VS outbreak. Everyone is taking it very seriously. It’s a horrible disease. Fly vector.

That I can totally get behind and have been saying it for years (to myself and on bulletin boards not to anyone who matters lol). I have no problem competing against the average pro who runs the local stable and teaches kids how to ride and is trying to bring her less than perfect horse far enough to get her bronze. I wish the seasoned FEI amateurs bringing their next talented horse up the levels were in a different division than me. Open, Horse, and Rider make a lot more sense to me than Open and Amateur.

Agreed! The CBLM champs in Region 1 do a version of Rider vs Open divisions (explained here: https://issuu.com/chasingreign/docs/esdcta_collective_remarks_-_may_2023/s/23726367).

I wonder if that has ever been officially proposed?

I’ve definitely seen haul ins, and it’s not uncommon for people staying on adjacent property to drive in. Obviously not if they are entered in FEI divisions since those horses are required to be stabled on the ground and separated from other horses.

At this time I’d expect the haul ins, etc to slip through the cracks when it comes to paper tracking, but not if the organization moved to an online app, then it’s probably just a quick report to find and track down entries who have not updated the app in a timely fashion.

Don’t just ask the TD at the show verbally. I think the idea above of emailing USDF is a good one. You will get an answer IN WRITING and can then show it to any TD who disagrees. While answers from TDs should be definitive, they are not always correct and don’t always agree with one another.

That document is confusing. It seems to be missing lots of information.

LawsofMurphs friend does not have to contact usEf for clarification, the rule is written and clear, teaching Therapeutic riding does not make her a pro
Friend needs to read and understand the rules and know how to access them

My thought is that since the friend has a TD that is telling them something other than what the rule very clearly states, it would be good to have it in writing from the governing body answering the very direct question, to show the TD that is clearly not understanding the rules.

No need to bother the folks at USEF for an email. Just hold up the screen on the phone showing the section. Or print out the page from GR 1306 where it says she is an Ammy. If she wants to give friend a teaching ( reminding) moment she can do that.

Im sorry that this TD stumbled over what is probably the most questioned rule ( ammy v Pro) , but it has become so complex that I have no surprise that she forgot this change, It use to be teaching at summer camp was about the only exemption. The teaching Hippotherapy is a somewhat newer addition to the extensive collection of conditions

Friend just needs to get her memberships, tick the box and be done with it.
