USEF USDF Rules question

I’m sure you are quite able to peruse prize lists. It is happening.

 Don’t see any “snark” coming from Janet, only an opinion from a qualified official.

USEF/USDF Dressage Competitions may not offer Western Dressage classes. The tests for Dressage Competition are specified in DR118. Breed shows may offer dressage and western dressage among their class offerings. Could you post links to the prize lists that you are referring to?

I can’t see how a USDF USEF show could offer western dressage - how could you manage the warm up? The western dressage folks use equipment and wear attire that is illegal under USDF USEF rules. I can’t see how you could possibly combine the two.

Lorilu I have used this bit on him and he goes well with it. It is my understanding that it is not legal. Janet, the slight poll pressure that a Baucher has would probably not suit this particular horse. All the hobble does is keep the bit from moving from side to side in his mouth. I use it with loose ring bits to keep the break over centered correctly.

I am soooo confused.

I believed the H.S. Duo loose ring is USEF/USDF legal… do you think it is not? The bit hobble is definitely not (unless WD)

I have seen the Duo with a full cheek, if the full cheek is used without keepers, would the break over be centered correctly for your horse?

Could the full cheeks also solve the moving side to side (with out poll pressure) issue?

The H.S. Duo full cheek (sans keepers) could be used with a drop nose band, and that would be ultra stable, That is all legal I believe.

Not intending to be snarky.

As a licensed official (Eventing, but the same principle) I HATE having to tell people at a competition that their equipment is illegal. It is far better to get it straightened out BEFORE you go to a competition.

The questions was not whether it was a good idea, or a good training approach, or legal for Western Dressage. The question was “Is it legal under USDF/USEF rules?”

A Baucher does not have ANY poll pressure. If you do not believe me, put your finger under the crown piece while someone pulls gently on the reins. You will find that the crown piece gets looser. But it sounds as if the Baucher/full-cheek-with-keepers rotational stability is not what you are looking for anyway.

I agree with the suggestions to try a properly adjusted dropped noseband, with maybe D-ring or full cheek rings, to keep the bit centered in the horses mouth (all USEF Dressage legal).

Csaper58 I was referring to the Sprenger Flex Control bit being illegal.

Isn’t the H.S.Flex Control Bit legal?

It has the black rubber over the jiont?
