USHJA fine?

I’m not sure breeders are always in contact with the trainers. My breeder isn’t, though I as the owner am in contact with the breeder and I made sure the form was filled out. I don’t think breeders have much sway in getting trainer to fill out forms that benefit the breeder more than the trainer.

Unless I am confused about the timeline USHJA only awarded Dr. Feiste the award and put her name on the trophy after losing the arbitration.

A “Horse Bio Form” isn’t an entry form and it only applies at this particular horse show. Why, then, do breeders and exhibitors pay to record horses with both organizations, if this redundant form will still be needed? Take some of the $5000 fine and put it toward better database management.

They tried. @Tackpud Do you really think it’s acceptable for a breeder or an exhibitor to have to pay $450 in protest fees to these organizations, over and above all the normal costs of breeding raising training and showing horses, to get a trophy she clearly, according to the hearing committee, should have gotten either from day one, or as soon as the error was pointed out? If so, I’m making a note of your name as one that needs to go on the list of USHJA leadership due for a change.

The trophy, by the way, still isn’t engraved correctly.

No - the USHJA awarded it to her back in October I think it was well before anything happened with USEF.

Correct. It took a conduct review committee hearing through USHJA which first awarded the trophy but said no we’re keeping your $200. Then the USEF Hearing Committee resulted in the $5000 fine (which USEF keeps) and a refund of the $250 USEF protest fee.

No I don’t, but I remember seeing something from USHJA about the change of who won the trophy. I noticed because I am friends with the sisters who were originally awarded the trophy and I believe they were very gracious about the change. Sorry to hear the trophy hasn’t been changed.

The originally named breeder is a lovely person and this should not reflect negatively on her in any way!

So is the second person the trophy was awarded to for the East Coast (not Dr. Feiste). So is the person/farm that originally was awarded it for the Central show. Although those were incorrect too.

I don’t mean to imply by omission that any of these breeders are not well deserving of an award. As best as I can tell none of them were the ones putting up resistance to the award going to the breeder whose horses did the best. It was the USHJA that was resistant to that happening.

100% agreed. Its just amazing that they gave out one trophy three times and the other one twice.

Oh it has Dr. Feiste’s name on it now. But they engraved it with the leading owner for the central show instead of the leading breeder. I’ve seen the picture. This is approaching “you had one job” territory.

I have to wonder as far as uses of resources if hiring professional show management wouldn’t be a better idea. I’m sure having a full year salaried employee who handles this is more expensive than paying a show manager and I’m beginning to believe it’s significantly less efficient if it’s this hard to get a one ring show with a really limited entry right.

The Virginia Horse Center manages the show.

The VHC manages the Virginia Young Horse Festival. The USHJA manages every aspect of Sallie B. Wheeler because it’s the national hunter breeding finals. Glenn Petty, the license holder, and Keedie Leonard, the show secretary, were not found liable by the hearing committee for any of these rule violations. USHJA was.

Then why is the USHJA rep deciding and managing communication on perpetual trophies? I’m not familiar with other shows having such involvement and they seem to have more success with getting awards handled given that this seemed to be a struggle at multiple locations for this show series. Maybe it’s too many cooks in the kitchen?

I’m wondering what the implications might be if USHJA refused to pay the fine to USEF? Would USEF just not allow any USHJA classes (hunters, derbies, etc.) to happen? Has USEF ever fined another national organization like this before?

I’ve never seen anything like this, and that’s why I started the thread. I’ve seen horse show management groups get fined, but never a whole association.
